A memorial service will be held Saturday for Thomas Miller Jenkins Jr., associate director of admissions at Virginia Tech and former president of two historically black colleges.
The service will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel on Tech's campus.
Jenkins died Dec. 24 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
Jenkins, 70, served as president of Albany (Ga.) State College and Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. He had been vice president and associate vice chancellor of Georgia State University in Atlanta and the University of Illinois at Chicago, respectively.
He held the position of dean at Florida A&M and the University of Cincinnati.
In September 1991 he became a member of the Virginia Tech faculty as associate director of admissions.
He is survived by his mother, Pauline Healis, and stepfather, Harold Healis, both of Roslindale, Mass., and a grandson, Thomas M. Jenkins IV, of Portland, Mass.
