DENNIS CRONK has been elected vice president and liaison to affiliates for the National Association of Realtors, a Chicago-based real estate trade group.
Cronk is a broker and partner with Waldvogel, Poe and Cronk Real Estate Group Inc., a Roanoke real estate firm specializing in commercial sales, leasing and management. He has been in real estate for 20 years.
Cronk has served on numerous committees of the national organization and has been active at other levels of the Realtor organization. He is a past president of the Virginia Association of Realtors and the Virginia Real Estate Education Foundation.
BANKING
ROGER W. NEWCOMB of Troutville has joined Bank of Botetourt as vice president and branch manager of the Daleville office after retiring from NationsBank after 28 years of service. Newcomb is a member of the Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce and is on the board of directors of Botetourt County Industrial Development Authority.
JAMES E. HALL JR. has been promoted to vice president of Central Fidelity Bank and is head of the private banking division for the southwestern region. Also at Central Fidelity, BEVERLY D. ST. CLAIR has been named assistant vice president. She has been with the bank for 15 years, most recently as branch manager of the Plantation Road office. TERESA H. KELLY, who has been employed by Central Fidelity for seven years, has been promoted to assistant vice president and senior training specialist. DEBORAH H. GIBSON was promoted to officer of the bank. Gibson, who has worked at Central Fidelity for more than three years, is branch manager of the Roanoke Road office and will be responsible for opening the New River Wal-Mart office in March. BARBARA G. SARVER has been named branch manager of the West Salem office. Sarver joined the bank in 1988 and previously was assistant branch manager of the Salem office. SEAN SMITH has been promoted to officer. Before joining the commercial lending division in Roanoke, he was a commercial management trainee for two years.
COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
REGINALD SHAREEF of Roanoke has been named Radford University's affirmative action officer. Shareef will be conflict mediator on employment-related issues and will monitor minority recruitment at the university. He is an associate professor of political science and public administration.
CONTRACTORS
DOUG BLOUNT has joined Thor Inc. General Contractors & Engineers in Roanoke as a project manager. Blount has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry. KYLE F. SHOCKLEY has joined the company as director of marketing. She has been in the industry for more than three years. MATT MATTHEWS has joined Thor Inc. as the computer-aided design operator for the design department. He has more than five years of experience in drafting, architectural and computer science, including teaching classes for Montgomery County Public Schools and working in the Virginia Tech Bookstore consumer electronic department as its installer of personal computers.
MANUFACTURING
TERRY FISHER has been hired by North American Housing Corp. in Boones Mill as a regional sales manager. VAN BARNES has joined the sales team specializing in sales to South Carolina builders. North American Housing produces factory-built custom houses for residential builders.
MEDICINE
DR. PAUL F. WHITE, an allergist and immunologist, has been elected president of the Roanoke Valley Academy of Medicine. In addition to his Roanoke practice, White is a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Other newly elected officers of the academy are DRS. LEE T. HELMS, president-elect; MARK O. SMITH, vice president; and ANDREW G. ROTH, secretary-treasurer. JOHN M. BUTLER, CLEMENT B. BINNINGS JR. and JAMES G. GOODING were elected to the board of directors.
DR. C. ALAN HENRY of Roanoke has been appointed to the board of directors of The American Society of Breast Surgeons, a professional association of surgeons who devote a substantial portion of their practice to breast diseases and breast surgery.
NONPROFITS
MICHAEL VAN HAELEWYN has been named branch director of the Salem Family YMCA on Kime Lane (formerly the Salem YWCA). Van Haelewyn came to the Central branch of the YMCA of Roanoke Valley as an aquatics coordinator in 1993 and became aquatics director in 1994. In addition to programming, he has been involved in fund raising and communications.
