Allen, Willis; grandson and wife, Dwayne L. and Lisa R. Allen, Aviano Air Force Base, Italy; granddaughter and husband, Susan A. and Corey L. CLARK, Orpha Alabama, 68, of 702 Gale Road, Pearisburg, died Saturday morning, January 27, 1996 in Giles Memorial Hospital. Born in Elgood, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late John Raleigh and Alabam Lilly Comer. She was a homemaker who had worked at the Celanese Plant near Narrows a nd was a member of Jehovahs Witnesses. Surviving are her husband, William D. Clark; two sons, David Clark, Pearisburg, Doug Clark, Mt. Holly, N.C.; one sister, Ella Blanche Myers, Roanoke; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 30, 1996 at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel, Pembroke, Va., with Mr. William Gusler of Jehovahs Witnesses officiating. Burial will be in the CLark Cemetery at Trigg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m

GERRINGER, Mary Martin, 85, of Radford, died Friday, January 26, 1996, in a Dublin nursing home. She was preceded in death by a son, Carmel R. Saul. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, James F. and Freda Saul, Harry Douglas and Zula Saul, both of Radford; four daughters and one son-in-law, Irene and Kenneth Clapp, Lottie Erickson, both of Radford, Betty Robinson, Christiansburg, Edith Taylor, Floyd. Ten grandchildren and eight great-grandc hildren also survive. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Gibson officiating. HARLESS, Vannie W., 92, of Elliston, died Friday, January 26, 1996, at Richfield Nursing Center in Salem. He was a 52-year veteran of Norfolk and Western Railway, who retired in 1969. He is survived by his wife, Lelia Vaught Harless; th ree sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Bunny Harless, and Russell and Marie Harless of Salem, and Herbert and Ann Harless of Shawsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Lorene and Leonard Tolley of Daleville; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Clarence K. Harless of Burton. Funeral services will be held at Seneca Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Virgil McHone and the Rev. Ronald King officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. The family will receive friends at Seneca Baptist Church from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. HERBERT, Glenn D., 42, currently of Daleville, died Friday, January 26, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his son, Dana Herbert of North Wales, Pa.; his mother, Jane Billig of Bloomsburg, Pa.; his sisters, Linda White of Daleville, Dianna Gorton of Ayden, N.C.; his brothers, Richard Herbert of Roanoke, Chris Herbert of St. Petersburg, Fla., Steven Herbert of Bloomsburg, Pa. Glenn was formerly a resident of Trumbaursville, Pa., and he had recently moved to Daleville. KYLE, Sara Sheffield, 91, of Galax, died in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Friday, January 19, 1996. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Maud Crutcher Sheffield of Chapel Hill, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Kyle. She is survived by seven nieces, Dorothy G. Read, Patricia A. Kyle, Penelope Kyle Menges, Rita K. Yeager, Lynn K. Norman, Shirley K. Conway, and Ella K. Weimer; eight nephews, C. Jack Sheffield Jr., Jere McGuffee, Don Sheffield, Eugene Lane, Lanny Kyle, William R. Kyle, William S. Kyle, Bobby Killenger; four sisters-in-laws, Jama Sheffield, Penny Kyle, Charlotte D. Kyle, Fay Sheffield. Mrs. Kyle graduated from Maryville College and received a Masters degree in English, Physical Education, and Library Science at Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. Her career in education extended from Globe, Ariz. to Hinds Jr. College in Raymond, Miss., then to Virginia, where she taught in Hampton, Hillsville, Bedford, and Galax. She taught English, Drama, Public Speaking, and was librarian at old Hillsville High School. Mrs. Kyle was a leader in the community. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, was very active with Twin County Community Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary, serving as vice president and president, and was assistant buyer for the hospital gift shop. She served as chairman of Galax-Carroll Regional Library, chairman of B. C. Vaughan Memorial Library Board, an d was Trustee of the year of Virginia Library Association in 1988. Mrs. Kyle was president of the Woman's Club in Hillsville and served as state president of Virginia Federation of Womans' Club from 1948 to 1950. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Carroll County Retired Teachers. Mrs. Kyle worked with the Cancer Society, United Way, and Clean City Committee. A memorial service was held Sunday, January 21, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Kyle and the Rev. Ken Perkins officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Galax or the Galax Foundation for Excellence in Education.

She was the former President of the Roanoke Valley Hairdressers Association and former President of the East Tennessee Antique Dealers Association. MITCHELL, Charles Gilmer, Sr., 78, of Hardy, passed away Thursday, January 25, 1996. Charlie was a retired truck driver from Russell Transfer, and was preceded in death by his daughter, Charlotte Ann Mitchell. Surviving are his son, Charles Gilmer Mitchell Jr.; his daughter, Sandra Mitchell F erguson; five sisters, Elizabeth Brooks of Boca Raton, Fla., Margaret Norman of Richmond, Virginia Strong of Palm Desert, Calif., Christine Buffham of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Lois Booker of Richmond; a dear friend, Virginia Williamson of Roanoke; a half brother, Walter Mitchell, and several nieces and nephews. OWEN, Anna Jeanette Cunningham, 81, of Roanoke, died Friday, January 26, 1996. She was born on August 4, 1914, in Bardwell, Ky. She was the widow of William Howell Owen, and was a nursing assistant at South Roanoke Nursing Home and Lowes Register. She was a foster mother for the Childrens Home Society of Roanoke. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Kay Owen; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda O. and Roger Brown Sr.; three grandchildren, Roger Brown Jr., Steven Brown and Shawn Brown; three brothers, James H. Cunningham, Herschel L. Cunningham and David F. Cunningham, and a sister, Frances L. Trentham. TWEEDY, Charlie Warren, 72, of Roanoke, departed this life unexpectedly on Saturday, January 27, 1996, in a local hospital. A native of Gary, W.Va., he was retired from U. S. Steel, at Gary No. 2, as a Supply Motorman, and had made his home in Roanoke for about nine years. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
