SIGN-UP SET FOR PLAYERS FROM FERRUM

Three professional baseball players from Ferrum College will conduct an autograph session Feb.1 in Rocky Mount.

Houston Astros pitcher Billy Wagner, Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eric Owens and pitcher Keith Mayhew of the Atlanta Braves organization will sign autographs at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School auditorium from 6-8 p.m. Admission and the autographs are free.

In other news:

Washington and Lee senior Josephine Schaeffer finished second in the 5,000-meter run at the East Tennessee State University Invitational in a time of 17:49.90, breaking her school record. Schaeffer's time also qualified her for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships which will be held March 8-9 at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

Virginia Tech placed several athletes in the USAir Invitational held at East Tennessee State University.

Meredith Newby placed second in the 20-pound weight throw.
