Alderman anniversary

Congratulations to Howard and Naomi Alderman on their 50th wedding anniversary, January 22, 1996. They celebrated with their children and grandchildren at a dinner in their honor on Sunday, January 21, 1996.

Atkinson anniversary

Clarence and Janice were honored with an open house celebration hosted by their son Mark and wife Ponza at their home. Many friends, family and out of town guests were in attendance. They were further honored with a trip to Hawaii by their daughter, Sandy, and husband, Walt.

The Atkinsons were married December 5, 1945, in Princeton, W. Va. He is retired from the N & W Railroad. They are active members of Christian Life Fellowship Pentecostal Holiness Church. They have four grandchildren.

Blankenship

50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Estill C. (Shorty and Ruth) Blankenship will celebrate their 50th anniversary, with their family, at a luncheon given by their children today, Sunday, January 28, 1996. The celebration will be hosted by their children. They were married January 26, 1946 and have lived in Roanoke for 45 years.

Bower anniversary

Sidney L. Bower and Maggie K. Bower celebrated their 50th anniversary on Jan. 24, 1996. The celebration was held at a sisters home in Roanoke, Va. It was hosted by Ruth and Buddy Dudding. The couple were married Jan. 24, 1946 in Martinsville, Va.

She's the former Maggie Kathleen Hiner of Troutville. They have two children, Don Bower, Detroit, Mi., and Anita Miles, Troutville, Va. They have three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They are both retired and belong to the V.F.W and the American Legion.

Brown anniversary

James and Frances Brown recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married December 3, 1945 by Rev. W. B. Denson. They have one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Charles Clemmer and three grandsons. James served in WWII in Europe with Patton's 3rd Army. James is retired from Valley Metro and Frances is a homemaker.

Chittum anniversary

James and Denise Chittum of Boones Mill, celebrated their 50th Anniversary at a dinner given by their children on Friday, January 26, at the Homeplace. They were married in Lyon, France, January 26, 1946.

James is retired from Norfolk & Southern. Denise is a retired nurse from Roanoke Memorial Hospital. They have 4 children, Yvonne McCl ure, Boones Mill; Dorie Howard, Roanoke; James L. Chittum, Jr., Roanoke; Bonnie Conner, Boones Mill; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild, and they are deeply loved by all.

Helms anniversary

Johnny C. and Sabra T. Helms of Salem, Va., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 26, 1996. They were married in Roanoke County by Elder B. V. Helms. Sabra is the former Sabra Allen Thomas of Roanoke, Va. Johnny is a retired self-employed electrical contractor and served in the 29th Division of the U. S. Army in World War II and retired as a Sergeant Major with the U. S. Army Reserve. Sabra retired from the General Electric Co., Salem, Va. Both are graduates of Andrew Lewis High School. They raised a family of two daughters, Sherry Helms Thurman, Salem, Va., and Deborah Helms Reynolds (Mrs. John P.), Roanoke, Va., and one son, John C. Helms, Jr., who died in 1986. They have one special grandson, Seth Helms Reynolds, Roanoke, Va. A reception, hosted by their daughters, son-in-law and grandson, was held on Saturday, January 27, 1996, at the Taylor Masonic Lodge, Salem, Va., honoring Johnny and Sabra and their 50 years together.

Lynch anniversary

Other and Mary Lynch celebrated their 50th anniversary on January 23, 1996. The celebration was held at the Vinton War Memorial and was hosted by son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Julie Lynch. The couple was married January 23, 1946, in Roanoke. They have lived in Vinton for 33 years. Mrs. Lynch is the former Mary Roberson. They have one son, Glenn Lynch, of Vinton and three grandchildren. Mr. Lynch is retired from Ideal Laundry and Mrs. Lynch is employed by Kroger and retired from Tultex. Out-of-town guests included grandchildren and spouses, Lorrie and Wallace Huff, and Tammy and Ronnie Payne.

May anniversary

Columbus A. May, Jr. and Estelle Lally May of Goodview, Va., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 18, 1996. They have three daughter, Geraldine Leonard of Vinton; Anne Marie King of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and Barbara Burks of Raleigh, N.C. They have four grandchildren. Both were in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She is formerly Estelle Theresa Lally of Shenandoah, Pa. He is from Liberty County, Georgia. She is a retired homemaker. He is retired from Motley Audit and Inspection Service, Inc. Lynchburg. They are members of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, Roanoke.

Wray anniversary

Viola and David Wray celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 21, 1996, with a reception given by their children and attended by family and friends at Cedar Bluff Church of the Brethren. They were married on January 5, 1946, at the home of the late Rev. William Abshire. Mr. Wray is retired from General Motor Freight Lines after 32 years service. Mrs. Wray is a homemaker. They have three sons. They also have three grandchildren and a great-grandson
