MORE SPACE FOR ENGINEERING

LENGTH: Short : 21 lines
ILLUSTRATION: PHOTO: ALAN KIM/Staff. Construction of Virginia Tech's new

engineering building is under way next to Whittemore Hall (in

background). The project, which broke ground last summer, will have

more than 71,000 square feet dedicated to undergraduate instruction

and research. Completion of the project is scheduled for the spring

of 1997. Tech's College of Engineering has been running a 19 percent

deficit in the space recommended by the state for undergraduate

teaching and research. The new building will make up most of that

deficit. color.
