12-year-old joins pal, 13, in prison
CHICAGO - A judge Monday accepted a state request to send a 12-year-old boy to a state juvenile penitentiary, making him the nation's youngest inmate at a high-security prison.
That boy and a 13-year-old boy, who was also sentenced to a juvenile penitentiary, were convicted of murder for dangling and dropping 5-year-old Eric Morse from a 14-story building after the youngster refused to steal candy for them. The boys were 10 and 11 at the time of the killing.
In court, witnesses for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services described the boys, whose names have not been made public because they are minors, as ``unrepentant,'' ``disruptive'' and ``dangerous to others.''
