3 UVA SOCCER PLAYERS HONORED

Three Virginia soccer players have been named to Soccer America all-freshmen teams. Scott Vermillion and Matt Chulis were chosen for the men's team, and Karem Esteva was selected for the women's team.

The UVa threesome comprised the only defenders on either all-freshman team, which honors the top 11 men and women in the current freshman class.

Franklin County defends its Northwestern Region wrestling duals championship when it plays host today to the first two rounds of the tournament in Rocky Mount.

The Eagles meet George Washington-Danville, and Cave Spring takes on Halifax County at 5 p.m. The two winners meet in the semifinals 30 minutes after completion of the first round. The winner will qualify for the Group AAA duals.

If Franklin County prevails today, the Eagles will play host to the championship battle Saturday at 1 p.m., and wrestle the winner from the Cardinal or Commonwealth district.

Cave Spring is entered in this weekend's Big Orange at William Byrd, but if the Knights pull an upset and survive today, they'll drop out of Big Orange competition to wrestle in Saturday's region championship.
