ANDERSON, Richard, (``Dick""), 57, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, January 28, 1996, at his home after a long battle with emphysema. Born on December 25, 1938, he was a son of Oscar William Anderson of Roanoke and the late Ruth Carlson Anderson. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife, Donna Anderson of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark Eric and Julie J. Anderson of Roanoke; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Morris of the home; two stepsons, Mark Allan Taylor of Henry and James Morris of the home; two grandsons, Tyler Eric Anderson and Gabriel Trail Anderson of Roanoke; one brother, Larry D. Anderson of Roanoke; one half brother, Oscar W. Anderson Jr. of San Diego, Calif.; two half sisters, Martha Anderson of Blacksburg and Virginia Lee Cox of Roanoke, and several nieces and nephews. His body will be donated to medical research. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 1996, at Patrick Henry Community College, B1 Auditorium, Administration Building, Martinsville, with Dr. Samuel T. Woods, the Rev. Gary Milstead of Hospice and the Rev. Glen Voss of Mount Carmel Baptist Church officiating. Lynch Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge of arrangements.
ANDREWS, Nancy Hodges, 60, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 29, 1996. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Grady Andrews and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Dennis Tinsley, Roanoke; granddaughter, Faith Nicole Tinsley; sister and brother-in-law, Eula (Kathy) and Paul Comer, Lynchburg; brother and sister-in-law, Lacy D. and Nina Hodges, Roanoke. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mou ntain View Cemetery, Vinton, by the Rev. Jeff Gardner. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel

DOWDY, Martin McKinley, 66, of Blacksburg, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 1996, at the home of his sister, Margaret Cumbee, in Blacksburg. Born in Giles County, he was a son of the late William A. Dowdy and Gladys Songer Dowdy Wilson. He is survived by a host of family and friends: ``We feel very fortunate to have been his brothers or sisters, his friends, his wife, who were able to have known him and enjoyed his presence. All have shared his many tears, and the pain and suffering he endured. But, he will be remembered most of all for his love and kindness for others, his smiles and laughter, and his love for the Lord. And now, we can be assured, at long last, that his pain and suffering are no more, for he is at peace now with the Lord."" Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 1996, at the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with the Rev. Sam Hancock and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
FIELDER, Adelle Myrtle Bledsoe, 86, of Wytheville, died Monday, January 29, 1996. She was the widow of William Hobert Fielder. She is survived by six daughters, Ethel Perki ns, Wytheville, Kathleen Haulsey, Rocky Mount, Ann Gambill, Wytheville, Geneva Grubb, Wytheville, Betty Sewell, Clarksville, Ohio, Verna Cline, Wytheville; seven sons, Elmer Fielder, West Palm Beach, Fla., Roger Fielder, Wytheville, Donald Fielder, Wytheville, Carl Fielder, Wytheville, Robert Fielder, Troutville, David Fielder, Charlotte, N.C., Mike Fielder, Wytheville; three sisters, Lucy Warden, Streamwood, Ill., Lillie Williams, Appomattox, Bessie Ross, Clarksville, Ohio. GIVENS, Vergie Looney, 89, of Rt. 1 New Castle, died Sunday, January 28, 1996, in a Salem nursing home. She is survived by a niece, Martha Jo Zimmerman; a nephew, Malvin Huffman, both of New Castle. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Boitnott Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Huffman Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. HUFFMAN, Judith Willis, of Coral Springs, Fla., died Monday, January 29, 1996. She was an area resident for the past 22 years, formerly of Jacksonville, Fla. LAWRENCE, James Lee, 68, of Pilot, died Tuesday, January 30,1996 at his home. He was a veteran of World War II. RYDER, Helen Vivian Pumphrey, 84, of Bedford, died Tuesday, January 30, 1996 in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Washington, D.C. on September 9, 1911, a daughter of the late John Alfred Pumphrey and Helen Berta Halley Pumphrey. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Ward Henry Ryder; one sister, Dorothy Pumphrey; and a brother, Alfred Lester Pumphrey. Mrs. Ryder was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara R. and George Murphy of Bedford, Marilyn R. and Donald Rowe of Bedford; six grandchildren, Helen Ann Murphy-Jones and her husband, Don, of Chicago, Ill., George Ward Murphy and his wife, Suzanne, of Birmingham, Ala., John L. Murphy of Little Rock, Ark., Giselle Annette Rowe of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Emily Carol Rowe and David Matthew Rowe, both of Bedford; one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Suzanne Murphy of Birmingham, Ala.; several nieces and nephews.
