FIGHTING BLUES RALLY TO BEAT JAMES RIVER

Parry McCluer, ranked ninth in Group A, trailed James River at halftime, but the Fighting Blues rallied for a 54-41 boys' basketball victory in the Pioneer District on Tuesday in Buchanan.

Parry McCluer (11-2 overall, 4-2 district) outscored the Knights 32-17 in the second half.

Garth Humphreys and Mike Clark led the Blues with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Northside 72, Rockbridge County 44: The Vikings topped the Wildcats in a game littered with 3-point goals. The two teams combined for 14 3-pointers in the Blue Ridge District game in Lexington.

Jaymie Terrell hit two 3-pointers and, along with Luke Serber, led with 10 points. Rockbridge fell to 2-10 and 1-4.

William Byrd 87, Alleghany 57: Chris Childress scored 33 points as the Terriers (12-3, 3-2) ripped the Mountaineers in a Blue Ridge District game in Low Moor.

K.C. Burkes paced the Mountaineers with 12 points.

Tazewell 68, Christiansburg 58: Thad Beavers scored 28 points to lead Tazewell (5-9) over the Demons in a non-district game in Christiansburg.

Christiansburg (12-3) was led by Carlton Ashbrook and Michael Kazee, who each had 12 points.

Pocahontas, W.Va., 65, Covington Boys' Home 51: Jason Rolleston scored 20 points as the Warriors (5-3) beat the Indians at Covington.

Carlisle 78, North Cross 58: Brian Redd scored 27 points, including three 3-pointers as the Chiefs (13-1, 10-0) won in the Virginia Independent Conference.

Appomattox 68, Staunton River 52: Lindsay Fleshman scored 10 of his team-high 21 points during the third quarter as the Raiders (4-10) dumped the Golden Eagles in a Seminole District game in Appomattox.

Hunter Hoggatt was the only player in double figures for Staunton River (4-9) with 23.

Graham 58, Carroll County 48: David Bailey and Jeremy Mitchem combined to scored 31 points as the G-Men beat the Cavaliers in a non-district game.

Ryan Morris paced Carroll County (2-15) with 13 points.

Floyd County 68, Shawsville 47: Jason Dalton poured in a game-high 19 points and Travis Cantrell hit for 18 points for the Buffaloes (12-2, 4-0) in their Three Rivers District win.

Mark Akers scored 13 points to lead Shawsville (1-11, 0-4).

Cave Spring 56, Franklin County 46: The Knights scored the last eight points to win the Roanoke Valley District game after the Eagles had pulled to 48-46 in Rocky Mount.

Brad McCall led Franklin County with 14 points, 12 coming on 3-pointers. Jeremy Adkins added 11.

Girls

Cave Spring 88, Franklin County 37: Kristin Smith scored 18 points to lead four Knights (8-5, 5-2) in double figures as Cave Spring bombed the Eagles (2-12, 1-7) in Rocky Mount in a Roanoke Valley District matchup.

Monday's game

Covington 74, James Monroe (W.Va.) 60: The Cougars (8-6) made five 3-pointers in the third quarter to take control of a non-district game in Covington and avenge a 22-point loss earlier this season to James Monroe (6-7).
