COLEMAN, Dora Pearl, 91, o f Lewisburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, January 31, 1996 in the Greenbrier Manor Nursing Home in Fairlea, following a long illness. She was born in Franklin County April 5, 1904, daughter of the late Flint and Alzia Frith Carter. She was a member of the Gray Stone Baptist Church, Fairlea, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Coleman in 1969. Survivors include two sons, Kennie W., and his wife, Tommie Coleman of Collinsville, Clifford R. and his wife, Linda, of Lakeland, Fla.; and one daughter, Shirley C. and her husband, Wilbur Porterfield, of Inverness, Fla.; one brother, Millard Carter of Ferrum; two sisters, Viola Griffin of Bassett, and Vivian Harbour of Ridgeway; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, in Memorial Chapel of McCraw Funeral Home, with the Rev. Youel Altizer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg. GOAD, James Floyd, Sr., (``Jimmy""), 59, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Doris M. Goad, and a grandson, DeVon D. Mitchen, of the home; sons, James Floyd Goad Jr. and Edward Timothy Goad of Roanoke; a daughter, Loretta G. Mitchell of Vinton; a stepdaughter, Cathy Lynn Mitchen of Roanoke; a brother, the Rev. Eugene Cassell, and a sister, Alee G. Goad, both of Hillsville; a sister, Anna Louise Cooper; a brother, Russell William Goad; a sister, Shelby Goad Barbour, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Mark Mitchell, Gary Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Joshua Mitchen, Tia Marie Mitchen, Justin Mitchen and Destiny Mitchen; a sister-in-law, Evangelist Virginia M. Overstreet, and his mother-in-law, Helen G. Hensley, both of Bedford; also, several nieces and nephews. He had and loved many friends and co-workers. GUY, Mary Deyerle, 102, of Salem, died Wednesday, January 31, 1996. She was the widow of Samuel Richard Guy. Mrs. Guy was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Salem, and secretary of the Altar Guild for several years. She was a teacher in Roanoke County Schools for two years. Mrs. Guy was a clerk, then deputy in the office of the Roanoke County Commissioner of the Revenue for 35 years, and was a Notary Public for Roanoke County for 54 years. She was a member of Salem Historical Society, and was active in politics. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard D. and Uldene W. Guy of Lakeland, Fla., and two sisters, Mrs. Georgie D. Brown and Mrs. Hilda D. Miller of Salem. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with the Rev. Thomas Joyce officiating. Interment will follow in East Hill Cemetery. HEDGE, Orrin Brown, of Garden Grove, Calif., formerly of Dublin, died Wednesday, January 31, 1996 in Garden Grove. He was a son of the late John Buford and Mayme Brown Hedge of Dublin. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard, of Garden Grove, Calif.; a sister, Audrey Hedge Weeks of Radford; brothers, John B. Jr. and Arnold Hedge, both of Dublin, and Gerald Hedge of Norfolk. JOHNSON, Daniel Ray, 47, of Johnson City, Tenn., died Wednesday, January 31, 1996 at his home. A native of Christiansburg, he lived in Lebanon, moving to Johnso n City 20 years ago. He was a graduate of Lebanon High School and East Tennessee State University. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his father, Harold V. Johnson Sr., Lebanon, grandmother, Hazel E. Johnson, Shawsville; one brother, Harold V. Johnson Jr., Lebanon; one niece Jessica M. Johnson, Lebanon; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the Russell County Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Burton and the Rev. Rick Meade officiating. LUCAS, Charlie Edward, 91, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, February 1, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. He is survived by a d aughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Allan Kennedy, Christiansburg; a grandson and his wife, David and Diane Kennedy; a great-grandson, Michael Lucas Kennedy, all of Christiansburg; a granddaughter and her husband, Vicki and Mike McCullough; great-grandsons, David Scott McCullough and Jeffrey Michael McCullough; a son-in-law, William D. Doss, all of Shreveport, La.; and one sister, Pearl Flenor of Ohio. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the Richardson-Horne Chapel, conducted by Mr. Carl Schmidt, with interment in Sunset Cemetery. MARKHAM, Channing Junius, 77, of Big Island, died Wednesday, January 31, 1996. He was preceded in death by his devoted, loving and f aithful wife of 39 years, Lillian G. Markham, and two sisters, Ella Weeks and Lizzie Rickman. He is survived by two sons, Clayton J. Markham and wife Carolyn of Big Island, and Ray Markham of Forest; a daughter, Doris Anne Hickok of Buchanan; two loving and very special grandsons, Chris and Scott Markham of Big Island; five sisters, Pernie Whorley of Bedford, Martha Crouch of Roanoke, Mable Adkins of Hampton, Virginia Tolley of Big Island and Wanda Berry of Tennessee, and six brothers, Bill, Elmer, Harold, Silas and Columbus Markham of Big Island, and Carl Markham of West Virginia. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, February 3, 1996, at 11 a.m., at Hunting Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jack Miller and Mike Jones officiating. MARTIN, Earl, 66, of Rt. 2, Axton, husband of Dorothy H. Martin, died Thursday, February 1, 1996 at Memorial Hospital , Martinsville-Henry Co. Born in Franklin County, Va. on December 8, 1929, he was a son of the late Alonza Andrew Martin and Ida Prillaman Martin. He was a retired founder of Long Mile Recapping, Inc. Mr. Martin was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy H. Martin, of the home; daughter, Pamela Gale Gilley, Lynchburg; son, Earl Steven Martin, Axton; sisters, Estelle McDonald and Mary Lou Helms, both of Martinsville, Erma Craddock, Ridgeway; brothers, Hubert Martin, Martinsville, Cecil Martin, Richmond, and Dewey Martin, Rocky Mount; three grandchildren, Charity E. Gilley, W. Chadwell Gilley, Kristi L. Martin. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at McKee Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Leonard Castleman and Dr. Phillip Duckett officiating. MASON, Norman Sr., 74, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, January 29, 1996. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Peggy A. Mason; four sons, Norman Mason Jr., Tyrone Mason, Jerome Mason, Kevin Mason; three daughters, Debra Mason, Lisa Mason, Gaynell Mason; two stepdaughters, Shirley A. Ferguson, Norma Fralin; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mrs. Mil dred O'Neal; a host of other relatives and friends. Also, devoted sons-in-law, George Fralin and Danny Ferguson Sr. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 1996, at 11 a.m. in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with Dr. J. PHIPPS, Ossie Faye Gentry, 96, of Dayton, Ohio, died Monday, January 29,1996. She was born May 15, 1899 at Mouth Of Wilson, Va. and lived in Virginia until 1926. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she lived until 1978 and then moved to Dayton, Ohio. Mrs. Phipps is preceded in death by her husband of sixty four years, Lloyd W. Phipps in 1986, their baby daughter, Jeralene, Jewel in 1926, five sisters and two brothers, Verna Phipps, Viola Phipps, Ina Osborne, Ohnah Cox, Sallie Mackey, Payne Gentry, Paul Gentry, her parents, Professor A.M. Gentry and Sallie Fine Cox Gentry. Ossie Faye was a retired teacher having taught in Virginia and Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended Radford University. She was active in the community, church and fraternal organizations throughout her lifetime and was an active member of Westwood United Methodist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, many committees and commissions, Order of Eastern Star, Westwood Chapter #290, Westwood Civic Club, Westwood Women's Club and Daughters of America. She is survived by a daughter, son-in-law and grandson, Frances Lee, Donald and Peter Christian Nordstrom, all of Dayton, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at Galax First United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 3, 1996. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by the service at 3 p.m. then burial in Felts Memorial Cemetery, Galax with the Rev. Ken Perkins officiating. She was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, the Philathea Sunday School Class, and United Methodist Women. She was retired from Tultex Roanoke Division with 25 years service. Mrs. Wilson was the widow of Fuller Nelson Wilson, and was also preceded in death by her parents, Thurston A. and Carrie Kenney Barger. She is survived by a sister, Alma B. Walker, Eagle Rock; two sisters-in-law, Christine Barger, Eagle Rock, Georgie Altice, Rocky Mount. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Lotz Roanoke Chapel, 12 noon, Saturday, February 3, 1996, with Dr. Alton M. Washington officiating. Interment in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. ZERBEE, Verna T., 88, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, February 1, 1996, after a lengthy illness. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and is survived by five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Martina Zerbee, Anna Louise and Jerome Tankersley, Edith Z. Cox, Lavinia K. Zerbee, all of Roanoke, Jane Z. and James H. Gary of Golden, Colo.; a bro ther, Francis V. Zerbee of Roanoke; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services (weather permitting) will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with Father James Fosnot officiating.
