As Botetourt County braced for another road-clogging snowstorm, its Board of Supervisors voted Thursday to make a $2.2 million request for federal disaster relief to cover damage from January's near blizzard.
The meeting to approve the request had been scheduled for Friday, but the supervisors moved it up a day because of the impending snowstorm.
County Administrator Gerald Burgess said Friday that the request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency covers mostly damage to homes and businesses during the mid-January flooding. It also includes about $500,000 in damage to roads.
He said Buchanan, which was hit hard by the flooding, will submit a separate request later that will cover damage to town property.
