ROBERTSON CRITIC ASKS TO MEET WITH HIM AGAIN

A gay clergyman who was arrested a year ago while trying to force a meeting with Pat Robertson said Friday he'll return next week because Robertson's words still stir up anti-homosexual sentiment.

``We are convinced that your relentless campaign against homosexuality is a primary cause of the growing spirit of intolerance towards lesbian, gay and bisexual Americans,'' the Rev. Mel White wrote recently to Robertson.

White said he will meet Monday night with supporters in Virginia Beach to show a videotape of broadcasts from Robertson's ``The 700 Club'' during the past year. He says the programs contain ``blatantly intolerant statements'' about gays.

White, a 55-year-old Texas-based minister of the mostly gay Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, also said an effort will be made to present the video to Robertson.

White was arrested Feb. 15, 1995, at the Christian Broadcasting Network's headquarters complex when he wouldn't leave. He spent three weeks in the city jail and lost about 15 pounds on a liquids-only fast before Robertson came to the jail to talk privately with him. White was released after the meeting.
