MARKHAM, Channing Junius, 77, of Big Island, died Wednesday, January 31, 1996. He was preceded in death by his devoted, loving and faithful wife of 39 years, Lillian G. Markham, and two sisters, Ella Weeks and Lizzie Rickman. He is survived by two sons, Clayton J. Markham and wife Carolyn of Big Island, and Ray Markham of Forest; a daughter, Doris Anne Hickok of Buchanan; two loving and very special grandsons, Chris and Scott Markham of Big Island; five sisters, Pernie Whorley of Bedford, Martha Crouch of Roanoke, Mable Adkins of Hampton, Virginia Tolley of Big Island and Wanda Berry of Tennessee, and six brothers, Bill, Elmer, Harold, Silas and Columbus Markham of Big Island, and Carl Markham of West Virginia. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, February 5, 1996, at 11 a.m., at Hunting Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jack Miller and Mike Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of Clayton and Carolyn Markham, and at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

BROUGHMAN, Sarah Lewis Campbell (Mazie), 88, of Buchanan, died Thursday, February 1, 1996. Funeral Tuesday 2 p.m. at the Rader Troutville Chapel.

CATRON, Myrtle Lyons Hushour, 84, of Independence, Va., and formerly of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, February 1, 1996. Service changed to 11 a.m. Monday, Lindsey Funeral Chapel, Rural Retreat.

CLARK, Nancy Ragland, 40, of Roanoke, died Friday, February 2, 1996 after a long illness. Born February 7, 1955, she was preceded in death by her father, Ben Ragland, and a brother, Billy Ragland. Mrs. Clark was a surgical nurse at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Surviving are her husband, C. Carlton (``Ted'') Clark, Jr.; children, Brian and Katie Gaut, Roanoke; mother, Mildred Ragland, Roanoke; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Becky Ragland, Freddie and Connie Ragland, Eddie and Ruby Ragland, all of Roanoke, Benny Ragland, N.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Doug Heptinstall, Roanoke, Joyce and Randy Rakes, Botetourt County; father-in-law and mother-in-law, C. Carlton, Sr. and Anne Clark, Bedford County; many nieces and nephews; and many close and wonderful friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, at Melrose United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Richard L. McNutt, the Rev. Robert M. Chapman, and Dr. Darryl G. Crim. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Noon to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel.

CROCKETT, Louise Morgan, 79, of Fort Washington, Md., formerly of Elliston, passed away Friday, February 2, 1996. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

GLENN, Bettye Beckwith, of Cambridge, Maryland, died Friday, January 19, 1996 in the Meridian Nursing Center, Severna Park, Md. from complications of Alzheimer's. She was born and raised in Roanoke Va. and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1946 and Roanoke College in Salem in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was employed at Glenn Minnich Clothing Co., Roanoke and ""House of the Pines"" Nursing Home, Easton, Md. Miss Glenn was a cheerleader in high school and college and Miss Virginia in the first Miss Universe Contest in 1952. She was a member of Greene Memorial Methodist Church, Roanoke, Sphinx Sorority in college, and The Junior League of Roanoke. Before her illness, she was a member of the Dorchester County Historical Society in Cambridge and The Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary where she was active in the Robin Hood Shop. She is survived by two sisters, twin, Amy Glenn Angell Hunt, Severna Park, Md, LeCompte Glenn Deyerle, Roanoke and Ft. Pierce, Fla.; one brother, Herman Allen Glenn, Jr., Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; three nieces and three nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, William L. Glenn and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman A. Glenn, all of Roanoke. A memorial service will be held in Cambridge at a later date. Interment will be in the North Family Cemetery. GOODMAN, Martha E., 74, of Route 2, Marion, Va., passed away at her home Thursday, February 1, 1996 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry V. Goodman, a son, Harry V. Goodman Jr., and three grandchildren, Tony Gross, Edward Pennington and Joyce Hannah Goodman. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daniel Lindamood of Tennessee and Harry and Tina Goodman of Marion; four daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Roy Hubbard of Dublin, Elaine and Ray Mayne of Bristol, Theresa Goodman and Tim Gary of Lake Charles, La., and Linda and Sherman Gross of Marion; five sisters, Rose Arnold of Groseclose, Edna Crigger of Atkins, Ira Miller of Bland, Ollie Richardson of Rainsville, Ala., and Blanch Teague of Forth Worth, Texas; one brother, Luther Lindamood of Texas; sixteen grandchildren, Danita, Lisa and Tim Lindamood all of Tennessee, Peyton and Brent Goodman and Jennifer Foglesong all of Marion, Officer James B. Cline of Martinsville, Lt. Eric G. Goodman, USAF, of Knob Noster, Mo., Pam Wyatt of Chilhowie, Stanley Gross, Sandy Taylor and Sonya Dunford, Melissa Halley, Michael Pennington and Michelle Pennington all of Marion, a very special granddaughter and husband, Martha Jane and Ted Aker, and a special great-grandson, Andrew Aker all of the home in Marion, Va. Also surviving are nineteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 4 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. David Neitch officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Marion. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

GRAYBILL, Nelson Raymond, Sr., 71, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, February 1, 1996. He was retired from Kroger with 30 years service, and he was also a veteran of World War II. He is survived by wife, Ruby Graybill; sons and daughter s-in-law, Nelson R. Graybill, Jr., Kenneth and Diane Graybill, Freddie and Patty Graybill; stepson, Larry and wife, Donna Wilkerson; close friend, Frances Graybill; several grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Gene and Madeline Graybill, and Roy Graybill. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, February 5, 1996 at Oakey's North Chapel with Dr. Robert G. Moore, III officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Botetourt County. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel

GROSECLOSE, Samuel Francis, 67, of Ceres, died Thursday, February 1, 1996 at his home. He was a son of the late Benton and Clara Crabtree Groseclose, a dairy farmer, a member of the Sharon Lutheran Church, and was a retired teacher and coach of the Bland County School System. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Wiley Groseclose, Ceres; son, Samuel Frank Groseclose, Bland; son and daughter-in-law, James Patrick and Michelle Groseclose, Ceres; grandson, Brandon Shane Groseclose, Wytheville; two sisters, Betty Sue Compton, Wytheville, Evelyn Hill, Houston, Texas. Two nieces and a nephew also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sharon Lutheran Church in Ceres, with the Rev. Roger Klutz officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Newberry Funeral Home in Bland Saturday from 6 until 9 p.m. They suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Ceres Fire Dept. or the Bland County Rescue Squad. The body will be moved to the church one hour prior to services. Newberry Funeral Home in Bland is in charge of the arrangements.

HARRIS, John Ted, 81, of Hardy, passed away Thursday, February 1, 1996. Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Mary Harris of Hillsboro, N.C.; special friends, John W. and Sandra Harden, Mabel Harden, all of Hardy, Jim A. and Sarah Harden of Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 1996, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jackie Sp ence officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in the Hilton Family Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
