KIRBY, Mazie Mae Moss, 90, of Route 7, Bedford, died Wednesday, January 31, 1996. She was born in Charleston, W.Va. on June 2, 1905, a daughter of the late John Moss and Dora Crank Moss. She was a member of Center Point United Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Julius Omar Kirby Jr., Bedford; one daughter, Ruby Yopp, Portsmouth; one brother; one sister; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Mond ay, February 5, 1996, in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Marshall F. Driskill officiating. LOYD, Howard S., 87, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, February 1, 1996. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie L. Loyd and was the oldest member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Forrest G. and Iris A. Lloyd, Vinton; two sisters-in-law, Delilah Loyd, Roanoke, Sylvia Lloyd, Salem; several nieces and a nephew. Funeral services will be at the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Jean T. Rutherford and the Rev . Anthony C. Busic officiating. LUCAS, Charlie Edward, 91, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, February 1, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the Richardson-Horne Chapel, conducted by Mr. Carl Schmidt, with interment in Sunset Cemetery. MATSUBOYSHI, Keith, 38, of Roanoke, passed away Friday afternoon, February 2, 1996. He is survived by his mother, Patty Johnson, Michigan; his father, David Chapoton, Michigan; stepfather, Richard Whittaker, Florida; two sisters, Renee Chapoton, Virginia Beach, and Debbie Chapoton, Michigan. OTEY, George Buckner, 70, of Salem, died Thursday, February 1, 1996, in a Salem hospital. He was Chief MR U.S. Navy Retired. He was a member of Unity Church of Roanoke Valley, Pleasants Lodge #63, Kazim Temple, Scottish Rite, Roanoke Valley Shrine Club, Kazim Fire Brigade, Roanoke Moose Lodge #284, Legion of the Moose and Fleet Reserve Association. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with 43 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Isabel Amos Otey; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mark Rosenbaum, Arlington, Anne and Barry Threewitts, Harrisonburg; grandchildren, Timily Frazier, Boulder, Colo., Jason Threewitts, Harrisonburg; sister, Mamie Maynard, Pembroke, N.C.; brothers, Robert Lowell Otey, Salem, James Otey, Stockton, Calif. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 5, at 2 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Fisher officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. POTTS, Melva Stephens, 51, of Marion, died Friday, February 2, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was born March 8, 1944 in Roanoke, and she was preceded in death by her mother, Isabelle Johnstone Stephens and her brother, Frank Dean Stephens. She received her BS degree from Radford University, and Masters Degree from VPI. Having taught in Roanoke County for two years and in Wythe County for fifteen years, she later moved to Smyth County for an administrative position, assistant principal at Marion Primary School for the past five years. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wytheville, member of Alpha Delta Kappa, PTO, VEA, SCEA, NEA and the Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by one daughter, Alisa Dean Potts of Marion; her father and stepmother, Frank Walker and Elsie Brinkley Stephens of Wytheville; two sisters, Deanna Stephens Taylor of Mechanicsville, and Mariflo Stephens-Heblich of Charlottesville, one brother, Alfred Walker Stephens of Wythe County; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wytheville, with Pastor Steven Ridenhour officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wytheville. She was a retired school teacher with Roanoke City School System having retired from Forest Park Elementary School. Surviving are he r husband, Ralph Simmons of Roanoke; one daughter, Miss Julie Simmons of Wilmington, N.C.; a twin sister, Mrs. Craig (Wilma) Campbell, Lewisburg, W. Va.; sisters, Mrs. Frank (Kathleen) Farkas of Quinwood, W. Va., and Miss Nelsene McMillion of White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.; and several nieces and nephews. TRENT, Mozella Firebaugh, 94, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warnie Trent; a sister, Lula Anderson; a brother, David Firebaugh. Mrs. Trent was a member of Oakland Baptist Church, The Williamson Road Womens Club and The Dig and Dream Garden Club. She retired from Smartwear Irving-Saks. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Warren E. and Jean O. Trent, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Beverley T. and Donald E. Harper, Roanoke; grandsons, Dr. Alan G. Trent, Warner, N. TURNER, Minnie Burnett, 72, of Route 2, Box 533, Saluda, S.C., died Wednesday, January 31, 1996. Mrs. Turner was the wife of the late William Edward Turner, and a daughter of the late Ernest and Annie Mae Price Burnett. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Surviving are four sons, Ray Turner, Jerry Turner and Keith Turner, all of Saluda, and Donald Turner of Greenwood; two daughters, Ms. Joyce T. Croc kett of Roanoke, Va., and Mrs. Billy ""Kathy"" Corley of Saluda; one sister, Mrs. Thelma Davis of Saluda; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. WHITE, Ina Ayers, 81, of Route 2, Max Meadows, the Galena Community, died Thursday, February 1, 1996, at her residence. She was born in Grayson County, the daughter of the late William Fleming and Mary Ayers. She was a member of the Galena Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, and served as treasurer and Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a former teacher's aide with the Wythe County School System. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Benjamin Robert White Sr., and the loving and devoted mother and grandmother of a daughter and son-in-law, Delena and Billy Brown of Salem; a son and daughter-in-law, Ben Robert and Pam White of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren, E. C. Brown, Jr., David Robert Brown, Joseph Clayton Brown, Kristin Jeanne White, Kevin Robert White; one great-grandson, Matthew Morton Brown. Also surviving are two sisters, Blanche McAllister of Wytheville, Annie Reynolds of Austinville. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 4, 1996 at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Vaughan Earl Hartsell and the Rev. Norman Wilhoit officiating. She was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, the Philathea Sunday School Class, and United Methodist Women. She was retired from Tultex Ro anoke Division with 25 years service. Mrs. Wilson was the widow of Fuller Nelson Wilson, and was also preceded in death by her parents, Thurston A. and Carrie Kenney Barger. She is survived by a sister, Alma B. Walker, Eagle Rock; four sisters-in-law, Christine Barger, Eagle Rock, Georgie Altice, Rocky Mount, Clara A. Wilson, Vinton, Sally Wilson, Rocky Mount. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. WOODY, H. Carlyle, 86, of Lynchburg, and formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, February 1, 1996. He was a veteran of World War II, a former member of Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the B.P.O.E., and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lynchburg. Mr. Woody was preceded in death by his wife, Frances W. Woody. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwendolyn and James Naples, Lynchburg, Mary Martha Woody and Robert F. Becker, Martinsville; six grandchildren, Jess Naples, Olivia Naples, Lauren-Taylor Naples, Amie Becker, Nathaniel Becker, Bernard Becker; one sister, Mrs. Frank F. Pernell, Macon, Ga.
