RADFORD - The Radford Chamber of Commerce's annual social and auction, this year called "A Trip Down Memory Lane," will be a chance for nostalgia, Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Happy Days Cafe in the Norwood Center.

The event will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m., and will feature a dinner buffet and dance, for $25 per person. The auction will benefit the chamber's programs and projects.

Reservations are due by Feb. 16. A limited number of guests will be allowed.

For more information, call the chamber at 639-2202.

Hospital wins ad award

BLACKSBURG - Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital received second place for a 30-second television commercial in the Advertising Federation of the Roanoke Valley's ADDY competition.

The spot, on the hospital's new birthing center, was created by Judy Tynan and Linda Comeau of the hospital's public relations department. It was produced by WDBJ television in Roanoke.

The spot automatically will be entered into a regional competition of advertisements from throughout Virginia, and North Carolina and South Carolina.

ADDY awards are chosen by judges who evaluate an advertisement's impact, relevance, focus, and whether it differentiates its client's products or services from others.

Music academy is guild member

BLACKSBURG - The Renaissance Music Academy has been accepted as a associate member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.

The Blacksburg school, founded by local pianist Teresa Ehrlich, is in its second year and its associate membership in the guild is unusual. Most schools must remain at a provisional membership level for three years before moving on to associate membership.

Renaissance was given associate membership early because of its sound business structure and organization, stability, increase in enrollment, faculty, and community support.

The membership means Renaissance will have an easier time qualifying for grants.
