JONES, Gordon A., 65, of Salem, passed away Friday, February 2, 1996, peacefully at his home. Born in Fredericksburg, Va., September 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Augustus Allen Jones and Elora Farmer Jones. He was a graduate in 1950 of Warwick High School. He was retired with 34 years of service from General Electric Company. He was a Korean War Veteran, life member of the Salem Rescue Squad, and was a Baptist. He is survived by his wife, Velda Marie Jones; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon Lee and Kelly Jones; daughters and son-in-law, Vicki Jones Wood of Salem, Sandra J. Allmon and William Keyser of Newport News; sister, Rachel J. Briley of Newport News; granddaughters, Sydney Bryce Jones of Salem, Christy Lynn Allmon of Warner Robins, Ga.; grandsons, David Randall Wood of Salem, Gene ``Bo"" Allmon of Warner Robins, Ga.; stepgrandchildren, Alexander Fielder of Salem, Joey Keyser of Newport News; nieces, Pamela B. Austin, Deborah B. Williams; nephews, Michael Briley and Ronald Briley; mother-in-law, Opal Shrewsberry of Mocksville, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Monday, February 5, 1996 at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. William A. Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salem Rescue Squad or the Roanoke Memorial Hospice. KIRTNER, Dot Reed, 60, of Dublin, passed away Friday, February 2, 1996, at Radford Community Hospital. She wa s a secretary at the Appalachian Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Dublin, and was a charter member of the Valley Harvest Ministries Church in Dublin. She is survived by her husband, Lewis Edmond Kirtner; her mother, Mrs. Clara Boothe of Dublin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Edmond and Andi Kirtner of Christiansburg, and Patrick Lewis and Kim Kirtner of Bowling Green, and one stepbrother, Danny L. Boothe of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 5, 1996, at the Valley Harvest Ministries Church in Dublin, with the Rev. Steve Willis and the Rev. Edward W. Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Appalachian Conference Cemetery in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Building Fund, Valley Harvest Ministries, P. O. MAYS, Betty Davis, 66, of Salem, died Friday, February 2, 1996 at her home. She was retired from the VA Medical Center. She is survived by her husband, Elmer Samuel Mays; daughter, Leigh Hinrichs of Ottoway, Ill.; eight sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Walle Riegel of Brandon, Miss., Thomas C. and Kay Riegel of Newport News, James R. and Nancy Riegel of Yorktown, Robert A. and Shirlene Mays of Deal, Md., S. David Mays of Toano, Gerald D. and Teresa Mays of Toano, Paul B. Mays of Lightfoot, Matthew M. and Rosa Mays of Toano; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest (Jack) and Anne Davis of Roanoke, Donald R. and Beverly Davis of Salem; one sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Fred Ferrie of St. Mary's, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 1996 at the Temple Baptist Church in Salem with Dr. Jimmy Jennings and the Rev. Robert Mays officiating. McCOLLUM, Alvis Eugene Sr., Master Sergeant U.S. Air Force (Ret.), 65, of Route 1, Boones Mill, died Friday, February 2, 1996 at his home. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 22 years of service, held the rank of Master Sergeant, and received numerous decorations for his dedicated service to his country. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rueben and Beulah McCollum. Surviving are his wife, Jessie M. McCollum of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Scott and Rose McCollum, Bluff City, Tenn., Mike McCollum, Alvis E. Jr. (Junior) McCollum both of Orlando, Fla.; daughters and son-in-law, Belinda M. and Daniel Stratton, Greenwood, Wis. and Sondra K. Reott, Boones Mill; granddaughters, Andrea McCollum, Shawnna Frommeyer, Amanda Frommeyer, Angela McCollum and Sabine McCollum; brother and sister-in-law, John S. and Pearlene McCollum, Reidsville, N.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillie and Bill Cox, Alice and Carl Williams, Eden, N.C., Martha Senter and Mollie Priddy, Winston-Salem, N.C.; special friend, Joyce Wright; several nieces and nephews. POFF, Mamie Bell, (``Austin""), 83, of Lafayette, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 1, 1996 in a local hospital. She was born in Fl oyd Co. and had worked at Meadowbrook Nursing Center and was a member of the Elliston Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Roscoe Poff. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ercil and Christine Poff of Salem, Vestal and Bonnie Poff of Salem, Hansford and Trudy Poff of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Freda and Jerry Grubb of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Douglas and Karen Poff, Eddie Poff and Robin Nester, Camellia Grubb and Galena Grubb, Johnny Mason and Tracey Price, and Ricky McDaniel; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Ina Smith of Roanoke. PORTERFIELD, Mrs. Agnes Bell, of Glade Spring, died Saturday, February 3, 1996. She was a native of Dublin and had lived most of her life in Glade Spring. She was a member of the Glade Spring Presbyterian Church at Old Glade and the widow of Oscar Miller Porterfield. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, O.M. and Alice B. Porterfield Jr., Abingdon, Thomas B. and Rita Porterfield II, Richmond; one brother, Samuel H. Bell, Dublin; one grandson, Stuart Miller Porterfield, Richmond; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Bradley Porterfield, Elizabeth Kent Porterfield both of Richmond, Ann Gordon Porterfield, Newark, Del.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, Glade Spring Presbyterian Church at Old Glade with the Rev. Timothy E. Bird and Dr. Robert N. Lominack Jr. officiating. RAINERO, Leno Sr., 81, of Bristol, Va. died Thursday, February 1, 1996, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Hawkins Rainero. In the 1930's with his father, Mr. Rainero founded Rainero Tile & Terrazzo Company. In the 1960's, Mr. Rainero founded Permatile Concrete Pipe Company. Mr. Rainero was a life-long member of the Roman Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Bristol Civitan Club and was active in several Business Associations over the years. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. William (Teresa) Burkholder, Bristol, Va.; four sons, Charles Joesph Rainero, Leno Rainero, Jr., Louis Stevan Rainero and James Hawkins Rainero, all of Bristol, Va. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, one of whom is Mrs. Patton (MiMi) Rainero Coles, Roanoke, Va.; two great-grandchildren; and two nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Leno Rainero, Sr., will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Akard Funeral Home Chapel. Father Thomas A. Ianucci and Father Jim Grealish will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Rainero Family Mausoleum in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:30 p.m., Sunday at Akard Funeral Home prior to the service. SHRADER, Viola Estelle, 80, of Route 5, Bedford, died Friday, February 2, 1996 at her residence. She was born in Bedford County on January 12, 1916 a daughter of the late Frank Powell and Emma St. Clair Powell. She was prece ded in death by her husbands, James Owen Wheeler and Frank Clever Shrader. Mrs. Shrader was a member of Laurel Grove Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Margie Wheeler, Beford; three brothers, George Powell, Calif., Gilbert Powell, Bedford, Raymond Powell, Altavista; one sister, Irene Johnson, Huddleston; several nieces and nephews. SUTHERLAND, Nettie Carty, 83, of Clintwood, died Monday, January 29, 1996. A former teacher born in Dickinson County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Zilphia Carty. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Walter Carty, and one sister, Della Rose. She is survived by her husband, Henry Sutherland; a daughter and her husband, Rita and Jim Purdy of Blacksburg; three grandsons, Jay and Jonathan of Blacksburg, David and his wife, Kristi, of Alexandria; brothers, Claude, Clarence and Taulbee, and sisters, Grace Yates, Eda Clay, Mary Yates and Ruby Puckett. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, at Peuther Chapel Church, Clintwood. Interment will be in Clintwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Clintwood Funeral Home.
