Move over Hula Burger and McDLT. The reduced-fat McLean Deluxe is joining the list of McDonald's burgers that have proved to be McDuds with consumers.
The McLean Deluxe, with only nine grams of fat, was more heart-healthy than other hamburgers but not as tasty to many consumers. It will be scrapped after inventories run out, company spokeswoman Rebecca Caruso said Monday.
Company officials touted the burger as a good alternative for health-conscious consumers.
Not only wasn't McLean Deluxe popular, it was downright disliked. Some restaurant owners removed it from their menus.
``Have you ever eaten it?'' asked American Express Financial Corp. food analyst G. Michael Kennedy. ``It kind of reminded me of my mother's meatloaf, where I always had to have a bottle of ketchup by to get any flavor.''
