FRANKLIN COUNTY GOES TO THE MAT IN REGIONAL DUAL

Franklin County will go after the Group AAA Northwest Regional duals wrestling championship at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Rocky Mount against Stonewall Jackson-Manassas.

The Northwest final had been scheduled for this past Saturday, but was postponed because of snow.

Franklin County beat Stonewall Jackson 34-22 last year in the same competition, ending a three-year stranglehold the Manassas school had on the title. The Eagles already have qualified for the Group AAA duals tournament in Richmond, beginning either Friday or Saturday depending on the progress of the Central Region tournament.

This will be the final year of state duals competition, which has been dropped by the Virginia High School League.
