Student skip meal
EMORY - A number of Emory & Henry College students will skip lunch Monday to raise funds for the hungry and increase public awareness of local efforts to combat hunger in the region.
The third annual "Skip a Meal" event is sponsored by the Bonner Scholars and Marriott Corp. The Bonner program places student volunteers with local social service agencies.
Marriott, which operates the college's food service, will donate $2 for each student who signs a commitment to skip the noon meal. The money raised will go to Stone Soup Food Pantry, an emergency food ministry based in Abingdon.
Last year's event raised $668.
