First Virginia Bank-Southwest said Wednesday that it will close its Salem branch at 223 E. Main St., and consolidate it with the Boulevard branch at 231 College Ave.
James N. Hinson, bank president, said the Boulevard branch is only a block and a half from the one on Main Street. He said First Virginia will enlarge and renovate the Boulevard branch, which has three drive-in lanes and a 24-hour automated teller machine, neither available at the Main Street site. All the accounts will be transferred automatically, and the Salem branch will close when the renovations to the Boulevard branch are complete.
The West Salem branch at 2743 W. Main St. also will be enlarged and renovated, Hinson said. He said First Virginia will donate items from the archives of the Salem branch to the Salem Historical Society.
