ROANOKE CITY SCHOOLS recently announced the results of the 1995 Roanoke Christmas Chess Classic.
The winners are as follows:
Kindergarten through 12th-grade - Allison Holt, first place; Jessie Hsing, second; Mark Di Prosperis, third; Mary Holt, fourth; Justin Marlles, fifth; Christopher Clements, sixth, all of James Madison Middle School; Jonathan Tanner, seventh, and Greg Overholser, eighth, both of Addison Aerospace Magnet Middle School; Floyd Welton, Madison, ninth; and Robert Holt, Patrick Henry High School, tenth.
Special awards kindergarten through 12th-grade - Kavik Wallace, William Fleming High School, best under 1200 rating; Travis Williamson, Addison, best under 1000 rating; Lyle Durkee, William Fleming, best under 800 rating; and Infinity West, Noel C. Taylor Learning Academy, best unrated.
Team category kindergarten through 12th-grade - Madison, first place; Addison, second; William Fleming, third; Noel C. Taylor Learning Academy, fourth.
Kindergarten through seventh-grade - Adam Tanner, Raleigh Court Elementary School, first place; James Davis, Woodrow Wilson Middle School, fourth; Tom Raney, fifth and John Mobley, seventh, both of Fishburn Park Elementary School; Zachary Morgan, Huff Lane Micro Village Intermediate School, ninth; and Maria Motley, Addison, tenth.
The special awards kindergarten through seventh-grade - John Ellmore, Raleigh Court, best under 1000 rating; Josh Williamson, Addison, best under 800 rating; Meredith Stafford, Raleigh Court, best unrated.
Team winners, kindergarten through seventh-grade - Raleigh Court, second place; Fishburn Park, third; Addison, fourth.
Kindergarten through third-grade - Christopher Mobley, fourth place and Craig Kafura, fifth, both of Fishburn Park; and Donnelle Cunningham, Lincoln Terrace Saturn Network, eighth.
The special award winners kindergarten through third-grade - David Marlles, Raleigh Court, best under 1200 rating; Gregory Mobley, Fishburn Park, best under 800 rating; Israel Cunningham, Lincoln Terrace, best unrated.
The team winners kindergarten through third-grade - Fishburn Park, second place; Raleigh Court, third; Lincoln Terrace, fourth.
KAREN D. WEBB, an eighth-grader at Cave Spring Junior High School, recently won first place in the statewide "Tobacco Free-Healthy Me" art contest, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.
Webb and her school received a plaque during a legislative breakfast.
