Roanoke Valley AAUW offers scholarship
The Roanoke Valley chapter of the American Association of University Women is accepting applications for a $300 college scholarship.
Any female who will have completed a high school or GED degree by the end of this school year is eligible.

Trouble center needs volunteers
TRUST, the Roanoke Valley Trouble Center, needs volunteers.
Applicants must have a desire to help others and be willing to work one four-hour to four-and-a-half-hour shift per week.
TRUST provides training at no cost to the applicant. For more information, call the main office at 776-3550 or the TRUST shelter at 344-1948.
Church plans noon Lent services
With the beginning of Lent on Feb. 21, Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in downtown Roanoke, again will sponsor Wednesday noon services. Lunch will be served after the services.
The traditional 25-minute devotions, especially for downtown workers, begin at 12:05 p.m. and include special music and a message by pastors from several denominations. The lunch, available from 12:30 to 1 p.m., costs $3.50.
The schedule is as follows: Ash Wednesday, the Rev. Bernard S. Via Jr. of West End United Methodist; Feb. 28, the Rev. Jim Rivers of First Christian (Disciples of Christ) in Roanoke; March 6, the Rev. William R. Klein of Second Presbyterian; March 13, the Rev. Dennis Herman of Calvary Baptist; March 20, the Rev. Robert M. Chapman of Fairview United Methodist; March 27, the Rev. Thomas O'Dell of St. John's Episcopal; and April 3, the Rev. Richard L. Worden, superintendent of the Roanoke United Methodist District.
