Residents of areas damaged by last month's floods may be eligible for low-interest loans, temporary housing assistance and unemployment assistance through state and federal programs.
The Small Business Administration is offering loans for property damage and economic injury to renters, homeowners and businesses in Botetourt and Rockbridge counties and the cities of Buena Vista and Covington. Loans for economic injury only are available to businesses in the counties of Bedford, Craig and Roanoke.
The deadline for applying for property damage assistance is March 27; for economic injury loans, the deadline is Oct. 28.
Additional housing assistance is available to residents of Botetourt and Rockbridge counties and Buena Vista and Covington through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which provides grants for alternate rental housing and limited home repairs not covered by insurance. Deadline for applications is March 27.
Residents of Botetourt and Rockbridge counties and Buena Vista and Covington who were unable to work because of the flooding may be eligible for federal funds of up to $208 per week. To file for unemployment assistance, call or visit the nearest Virginia Employment Commission office within the next 30 days.
