Lisa Howard converted her own missed shot just before the buzzer as Radford edged Winthrop 95-93 on Saturday in a Big South Conference shootout in Rock Hill, S.C.
In the closing moments, Anne Cox hit a baseline jumper to put Winthrop in front 92-90, but Howard responded with a three-point play to put the Highlanders back in front. Cox then converted one of two free throws to tie it and set the stage for Howard's winner.
Howard finished with career highs of 31 points and nine assists and added six rebounds. Dede Logemann added 29 points, and former Christiansburg High School standout Rebecca McNeil added a career-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Radford (12-9 overall, 8-2 conference).
Jennifer Churchill led the Eagles (7-12, 4-5) with 19 points and Leigh-Ann Pursifull (Floyd County) added 18.
In other games:
No.14 Duke 72, No.9 Virginia 69: Kira Orr gave the Blue Devils (20-5, 9-4) their first lead of the second half with a 3-pointer, then hit two key free throws with 12 seconds left as Duke edged the Cavaliers in an ACC game in Charlottesville.
It was the Blue Devils' first victory in 16 visits to University Hall, where UVa has lost only twice in its past 67 games.
Orr, who scored 15 points, hit a 3-pointer with 2:17 left to give Duke a 68-65 lead, its first since a 4-2 advantage in the opening minutes. After Wendy Palmer scored to cut the Cavaliers' deficit to one, Orr missed a 3-pointer and UVa's Jenny Boucek was fouled driving to the basket. With a chance to put the Cavs back in front, Boucek missed both free throws, leaving UVa 7-for-18 from the line.
A pair of free throws by Tyish Hall, then Orr's two after a basket by Tora Suber, completed the scoring.
Suber had 18 points for the Cavs (17-5, 8-3) and Palmer added 16.
Rhode Island 68, Virginia Tech 63: An 18-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome as the Hokies fell to the Rams in an Atlantic 10 Conference game in Blacksburg.
Tech (6-13, 4-6) closed to 61-60 with 3:02 to play, but that was as close as the Hokies would get in the second half as their home-court winning streak was snapped at five games.
Michelle Hollister led Tech with 17 points and Lynette Nolley (Floyd County) added 16.
Dayna Smith scored 16 points for East Division-leading Rhode Island (17-5, 10-2).
Roanoke 84, Washington and Lee 62: Amy Athey (Cave Spring) scored 19 points as the Maroons cruised to an Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over the Generals in Salem.
Lori Boyd (Rockbridge County) and Ashley McCallum (William Byrd) each scored 10 points as Roanoke (18-3, 16-2) shot 54 percent from the floor.
Freshman Karin Treese led W&L (4-15, 3-14) with 16 points and Sandra Holmes added 13 points and six rebounds.
Ferrum 76, N.C. Wesleyan 63: The Panthers led by 12 at the half and rolled past the Battlin' Bishops in a Dixie Conference game in Ferrum.

In another game involving Virginia women's teams, former Cave Spring High School star Aimee Beightol scored 19 points as Randolph-Macon rolled past Emory & Henry 68-53 in an ODAC game in Emory.
Jackie Greene (Galax) led Emory & Henry (10-10, 10-6) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Beightol added six steals, three assists and four rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (20-1, 16-1).
