Sophomore Wayne Terry scored 41 points, three shy of the school record, as Rural Retreat whipped Castlewood 90-68 in a Hogoheegee District boys' basketball game Saturday in Rural Retreat.
Rural Retreat jumped out to a 25-8 first-quarter lead and coasted to victory. Chris Rakes had 20 points for the Indians and Ron Thomas added 10 rebounds.
George Wythe 54, Marion 49: Brian Barnes had 11 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, including a three-point play, as the Maroons downed the Scarlet Hurricane in a non-district matchup.
Glenvar 68 Bath County 49: James Williams scored 20 points to lead the Highlanders (14-5, 10-1) over the Chargers in a Pioneer District game in Hot Springs.
Giles 76, Auburn 64: Adam Jones led a balanced Giles attack as the Spartans took advantage of 24 Auburn turnovers to knock off the Eagles in a Three Rivers District game in Pearisburg.
Ballard (W.Va.) Christian 86, Covington Boys' Home 76: The Indians could not overome a huge discrepancy in fouls as they fell on the road. Covington Boys' Home (10-12) was called for 23 fouls and lost four of its five starters to disqualifications. Ballard (12-5) was assessed eight fouls, only one after the first half.
Bland 61, Rocky Gap 52: The Rockets hit eight of nine free-throw attempts down the stretch to beat the Eagles in a Mountain Empire District game in Rocky Gap.
Carlisle 62, Lynchburg Christian 54: Bryant Redd scored 20 points to lead the Chiefs (13-1) to the Virginia Independent Conference victory in Lynchburg.

North Cross 56, Carlisle 29: The Raiders jumped out to a big lead and coasted to victory over the Chiefs in a Blue Ridge Conference girls game in Martinsville.
William Fleming 60, Franklin County 40: The Colonels used a balanced attack to beat the Eagles in Rocky Mount in the second game of a home-and-home Roanoke Valley District series.
