BOLLINGER, Mary Belle Hobbs, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, February 9, 1996 after a long illness. She was the widow of Jacob Algie Bollinger and a member of the Williamson Road Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are a son, Eric Bollinger, Roanoke; da ughters, Ellen Bollinger Haynes, Roanoke, Mary Lee Jenkins, Millersville, Md.; five grandchildren, Ron Haynes Jr., Page Haynes, Vicky Haynes, all of Roanoke, Len Jenkins, and Katherine Lietzen of Northern Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Jake and Kristian Lietzen and Bailey Jenkins, all of Northern Virginia; sister, Angelita Jones, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 1 p.m. Monday, with Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date. CONDE, William Francis, (``Moon""), 69, of Bristol, Va., died Friday, February 9, 1996 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born in Charleston, W. Va. on October 13, 1926, he was the son of the late Aloysius J. and Josephine Hummel Conde. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Normandy Invasion. He attended Charleston Catholic and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky. Mr. Conde played on three wildcat bowl teams under Paul (Bear) Bryant, including the 1949 Orange Bowl, 1950 Sugar Bowl, 1951 Cotton Bowl; he was also teammate of Coach Jerry Claiborne. His coaching positions included Sydney Lanier High School, Montgomery, Ala.; head coach of Kentucky High School; line coach of Male High, Louisville, KY.; assistant coach, Charleston Catholic, W. Va.; head coach, Manual High, Louisville, KY; defensive line coach, Virginia Tech; and defensive line coach, University of Kentucky. Mr. Conde was inducted in West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1984. His last employment was with Central Fidelity Bank and Nations Bank. Surviving are his wife, Martha Dillard Conde; and one aunt, Miss Louise Conde, Pittsburgh, PA. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 1996, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 706 Harding Ave., Blacksburg, Va., with Father Donald Lemay officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to a charity of one's choice. DALTON, Clarence William, (``Buck""), 86, of Route 1, Ivanhoe, died Fri day, February 9, 1996, in the Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. He was born in Fries, the son of the late Carl and Ruby Davis Dalton. He was a retired sawmill operator and a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sue Spraker Dalton of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Melvin Williams of Vega, Texas, and Judy and Lee Webster of Amarillo, Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Ann Dalton of Tulsa, Okla., Carl and Wanda Dalton of Houston, Texas, and Phillip Dalton of Amarillo, Texas; one sister, Eula Johnston of Shreveport, La.; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 12, 1996, at the Fairview United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tazz Reid officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and other times at the residence. DAVIS, Russell Sr., 55, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 1996. He recently retired as an employee of the City of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisey Davis, his father, Charlie B. Davis and a brother, Benjamin Cook. Survivors include his mother, Marie Davis of Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, Russell Jr. and Fern Davis, Vinton; one daughter, Charlene Davis, Roanoke; two stepsons, David Nance of Texas and Samuel Nance of Roanoke; one stepdaughter and son-in-las, Gloria and Michael Washington, Roanoke; three brothers, Charles Davis, Washington, D.C., Harold Davis of Minnesota and Jimmy Davis of Roanoke; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Geneva and Robert Cotton, Detroit, Mich., Shirley and Ronald Harrison, Martha and Alfred Baxter, all of Roanoke, and Flossie Carey of West Virgnia; three aunts, Mrs. Lue Jennings, Brookneal, Mrs. Madeline Cook and Mrs. Elloween Craft, both of Roanoke; ten grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate, with interment in Williams Memorial Park. GARDNER, Chester Wiley, 83, of Route 1, Pulaski, died Friday night, February 9, 1996, at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem. He was born in Carroll County on February 13, 1912, and was the son of the late John Gardner and Jesse Coulson Gardner. He was a retired employee of Hercules Inc. of Radford, and a member of the Thornspring United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Frost Gardner. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Geneta) Kidd of Radford; one sister, Leona Harrison of Mocksville, N.C.; one brother, Lowman Gardner of Carroll County, and two grandchildren, Mitzi Kidd of Charlotte, N.C., and Richard Kidd Jr. of Radford. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Thornspring United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Hyndrich and the Rev. Cecil Albano officiating. GAY, James Reginald, (``Reg""), 86, of Goodview, died Friday, February 9, 1996. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman, Gordon, George, Richard and Frank Gay, and his sister, Anna Lundy. He was born in Monroe, son of the late William James and Loui se Anna Gay. He was retired from the Civil Service, with over 30 years of service with the Naval Weapons Station, and was a longtime member of the Court Street Baptist Church in Portsmouth. Survivors include his wife, Martha Catherine Orange Gay; a brother, Woodrow J. Gay of Roanoke; sisters, Eula H. Orange, Bette Gay, Doris and husband Lambert Oyler, all of Roanoke, Elizabeth Collins and Louise Sowers, both of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. JARVIS, Paul Steven, 37, of Route 2, Fairfield, died Friday, February 9, 1996, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington. He was born in Rockbridge County on July 25, 1958, a son of Paul Pendleton Jarvis of Route 5, Lexington, and the late Ruby Norcross Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis had been employed at the Food Lion grocery store in Lexington for 14 years, and was manager of the dairy department. He was a member and elder of the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church, where he also was a youth leader and member of the choir. He also was chairman of the Stewardship Committee and assistant chairman of Christian Education. In addition to his father, survivors include his wife, Rebecca Blackwell Jarvis; one daughter, Brooklyn Jean Jarvis of Fairfield; one brother, Gregory N. Jarvis of Route 4, Lexington; three sisters, Diane Jarvis O'Bryant of Buckingham, Alice Jarvis Mutispaugh of Buena Vista and Jane Jarvis Swartz of Lexington; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy B. and Robert Jennings of Fairfield; his maternal grandmother, Willie Berry Norcross of Lexington, and a number of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. KING, Madeline Harless, 75, of 1717 Memorial Drive, Pulaski, died Saturday morning, February 10, 1996, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born on August 20, 1920, in Pulaski, and was the daughter of the late James and Ocie Harless. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Harless. She was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
