LATE SCORE GIVES RADFORD VICTORY

Sophomore reserve Tony Hash came up big for Radford as it came back from a poor second quarter to beat Giles 55-54 in a Three Rivers District boys' basketball game Monday night in Radford.

Hash sank the winning layup with two seconds left to seal the Bobcats' win. He also drained a pair of free throws in the period, made several key rebounds, and took an important charging call in the waning minutes.

Radford, which took a seven point first-quarter lead, fell behind at the half after being outscored 19-5 in the second period. Derrick Chapman and Andrew Crowder keyed a third-quarter comeback for the Bobcats (10-8 overall, 3-3 district) with seven and six points, respectively.

John Robertson was the leading scorer for Radford with 19 points, including five 3-point goals. Chapman finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists, and Crowder had eight points on the night.

Aarron Meyers and John King led Giles (13-3, 5-2) with 13 points each. Josh Stephens added 10 points in the loss.

The Giles loss moves the Spartans two games behind Floyd County for the district lead, heading into tonight's matchup with the first-place Buffaloes in Floyd.

Alleghany 59, Lord Botetourt 49: In Low Moor, the Mountaineers built a seven-point lead and cruised in the second half as they downed the Cavaliers in a Blue Ridge District game.

Casey Burks led Alleghany (3-14, 3-5) early, scoring nine points in the opening quarter, all on 3-pointers. He also had a big third quarter, scoring 10 points, including another pair from behind the arc. Jarred Haslett added 12 points in the win.

Sean Osbourne was the lone double-digit scorer for Lord Botetourt (4-11, 4-6) with 14, including a trio of 3-pointers.

Patrick Henry 68, Pulaski Co. 52: The Patriots took control of the Roanoke Valley District contest in the second quarter, outscoring the Cougars 24-12.

Patrick Henry used its height to its advantage, outrebounding Pulaski 25-15 for the game. Pulaski's two inside players fouled out. Patrick Henry shot 62 percent from the field compared with the Cougars' 45 percent.

Brooks Berry led the Patriots (5-9, 0-5) with 18 points. Jamar McNair led Pulaski with 15 points and freshman Dorian Hendricks added 14.

Galax 67, Auburn 50: The Maroon Tide dominated the boards in their defeat of the Eagles in a non-district game in Galax.

Galax (7-8) ran its lead to 18 early in the fourth quarter before resting its starters.

Ken Houtz led Galax with 20 points and seven rebounds, and teammate Jeff Ross added 15 points, four assists and six rebounds.

Kenny Wojiechowski led Auburn (1-14) with 15 points.

Fort Chiswell 87, Narrows 75: Five players scored in double figures as the Pioneers rolled past the Green Wave in a Mountain Empire District game at Fort Chiswell.

With four 3-pointers in the first quarter, Fort Chiswell jumped out to a 32-10 lead and coasted to victory.

Brad Hughes had 16 points and 11 assists for the Pioneers. Shannon Jonas had 15 points and 11 rebounds, T.J. King scored 15 points, Gary Arnold added 11 and Heath Bralley chipped in 10.

Bryan Pruett scored a game-high 26 points for Narrows. Joe Shipbaugh had 23 points and Robby Stafford 19.

Graham 48, Blacksburg 41: David Bailey had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the G-Men to a non-district victory over the Indians.

Graham (12-3) shot 50 percent from the field. Jason Hypes added 11 points for the G-Men.

Blacksburg trailed 10-0 before it scored. Krishna Pacifici and John Hutchins had 11 points each for the Indians.

Covington 53, Parry McCluer 51: Mike Barber hit a jump shot with six seconds left to play to give the Cougars a Pioneer District win over the Fighting Blues in Buena Vista.

The difference in the game was free-throw shooting as Parry McCluer (11-5 , 4-5) shot 50 percent (10-of-20) from the line. Covington (12-6, 8-1) was 12-of-17.

Erwin Twitty scored 14 points to lead the Cougars and Barber added 10. Parry McCluer was led by Boo Rowsey's 13 points.

Holston 80, Rural Retreat 57: The Cavaliers made 10 shots from 3-point range and won the fourth quarter 36-11 to pull away for a Hogoheegee District victory.

Rural Retreat (6-13, 6-9) was led by Wayne Terry with 13 points.

Staunton River 61, Nelson County 53: Hunter Hoggatt scored 32 points to lead the Golden Eagles to a Seminole District win over the Governors in Moneta.

Hoggatt added eight rebounds, five steals and five 3-pointers for Staunton River (8-9, 8-9). Jeff English added 15 points for the Golden Eagles.

James Miles led Nelson County (4-12, 4-12) with 17 points.

Girls

Heritage 47, Franklin County 44: Elizabeth Thompson hit a 3-pointer with one second showing to lift the Pioneers to a non-district win at Lynchburg.

The game was close throughout, with the Eagles coming from behind to take a 44-42 lead late in the fourth period. Kelli Preston led Franklin County with 13 points.

Annika Jordan led Heritage with 14.

Friday's game

Liberty 82, Nelson County 53: The Governors played with the state's top-ranked Group AA team for one quarter but that was it as the Minutemen clinched the Seminole District title with a 29-point win in Bedford.

Liberty (16-0) had three players score 14 points and two others score in double figures in the win.
