A member of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra collapsed onstage shortly before a performance Tuesday evening at Virginia Tech.
Ivor Brown, a second violinist who lives in Roanoke, slumped in his chair as the orchestra warmed up in Burruss Hall Auditorium.
Other musicians called for doctors in the audience to help Brown, who apparently suffered a heart attack. Rescue workers arrived within minutes and began CPR.
Brown was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital, where a nursing supervisor said he was listed in critical condition.
The orchestra later performed for a crowd of about 600 people.
