Joseph McClinton sank a shot at the buzzer to lift Carlisle over Roanoke Valley Christian 73-71 on Tuesday night as the Chiefs clinched the Virginia Independent Conference championship with a victory in Martinsville.
Carlisle led 32-27 at halftime, but Roanoke Valley Christian (15-5 overall, 9-3 conference) was up four with two minutes to play. Bryant Redd hit two long 3-pointers to give the Chiefs the lead. Redd later hit one free throw to tie it at 71.
With 18 seconds left, the Eagles missed two free throws, Carlisle rebounded, went downcourt and McClinton converted a miss by teammate Lamont Franklin.
Redd had a game-high 25 points and McClinton added 23 for Carlisle (15-1, 12-0).
William Campbell 70, Staunton River 62: Chauncey Walker scored 22 points to lead four scorers in double figures as the Generals (10-8, 10-8) snapped the Golden Eagles' four-game winning streak with the Seminole District victory in Moneta.
Staunton River (8-10, 8-10) was led by Hunter Hoggatt, who scored a game-high 33 points, including five 3-pointers.
Rocky Gap 57, Grayson County 51: In Rocky Gap, the Eagles (8-10, 6-3) handed the second-ranked team in Group A its second consecutive loss after a 16-0 start. The Blue Devils are 6-2 in the district.
Liberty 94, Rustburg 49: J.J. Coles scored a game-high 18 points as the Minutemen (17-0, 17-0), the top-ranked Group AA team in the Associated Press poll, remained unbeaten with an easy Seminole District victory over the Devils (3-16, 3-16) in Rustburg.
Blacksburg 55, Tazewell 48: Phillip Klaus scored 27 points to lead the Indians (6-9) to a non-district victory in Blacksburg.
Christiansburg 52, Carroll County 38: The Blue Demons (15-3, 4-0) shook off a sluggish start to defeat the Cavaliers (3-17, 0-3) in a New River District game in Hillsville.
Parry McCluer 86, Craig County 24: The Fighting Blues (12-5, 5-5) hit hard and fast as they ran away from the Rockets (2-11, 0-9) in Buena Vista.
Salem 80, Rockbridge County 55: The Spartans held a 28-point halftime advantage and never looked back as they kept the Blue Ridge District race close and blew past the Wildcats.
Fort Chiswell 73, Galax 69: In Max Meadows, the Pioneers (9-9, 4-5) held off a Maroon Tide comeback attempt, sinking 14 free throws in the fourth quarter, as Fort Chiswell squeaked out a Mountain Empire District victory over Galax (7-9. 3-4).
Martinsville 54 Dan River 49: The Bulldogs did most of their damage from the free-throw line in their Piedmont District victory over the Wildcats in Ringgold.
George Wythe 67, PH-Glade Spring 42: Freddie Moses and Brian Barnes led the Maroons (14-4, 11-3) to a Hogoheegee District win at Glade Spring. Patrick Henry is 4-14, 2-13.
Tunstall 63, Magna Vista 58, OT Derrick Rogers scored 10 points in overtime to lead the Trojans (6-10, 5-8) to a Piedmont District upset over the Warriors (11-5, 11-4) in Dry Fork.
Shawsville 74, Auburn 71: Givens Ryan and Larry Smith made free throws in the final 19 seconds to lift the Shawnees (2-13, 1-5) over their Montgomery County rivals, the Eagles (1-15, 1-5) in a Three Rivers District game in Riner.
Patrick Henry 69, Franklin County 56: Boo Battle scored 10 of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Patriots (11-8, 5-2) held off the Eagles (3-16, 1-6) in a Roanoke Valley District game in Rocky Mount.
Chilhowie 71, Rural Retreat 54: The Warriors (13-7, 10-4) fell behind early, but blew by the Indians (6-13, 6-9) in a Hogoheegee District game in Chilhowie.
Northside 78, Alleghany 62: Xavier Lee scored a game-high 25 points as the Vikings (12-6, 8-1) downed the Mountaineers (3-15, 2-7) in a Blue Ridge District game in Low Moor.
