IN SCHOOL

BENT MOUNTAIN and GARDEN CITY elementary schools have selected outstanding students for November and December through Hills Department Stores' Outstanding Citizen program. Students are recognized for positive behaviors, such as demonstrating academic excellence, helping a classmate or correcting a behavioral problem.

Those recognized from Bent Mountain are: Michael Lester, Kristen DeWeese, Chandler Hudson, Kelly Shepherd, Rachel Marshall, Tyler Brooks, Melandy Waldron, Brian Reeder and Chella Glennon.

Those from Garden City are: Tiffany Belcher, Amber Benesh, Whitney Claytor, Cody Connor, Lisa Dinh, Phi Dinh, Jesse Dunbar, Dylan Goad, Hollie Hardison, Carly Held, Talea Journell, Chad Murphy, Brandi Beckner, Crystal Campbell, Bridgette Corner, Laura Ferguson, Ronald Holt, Matt Lovern, Brent Sowers, Chaia Woods, Jessica McFall, Latonya Artis, Jim Dinh, Jamie Prillamir, Ben Gardner and Melissa Travis.

KAREN D. WEBB, an eighth-grader at Cave Spring Junior High School, recently won first place in the statewide "Tobacco Free-Healthy Me" art contest, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.

Webb and her school received a plaque during a legislative breakfast.
