RADFORD GETS LONG-DISTANCE CALLING CARD

John Robertson scored a game-high 21 points, including five 3-point goals, as Radford knocked in nine 3-pointers for the game in blasting Shawsville 66-47 in a Three Rivers District basketball game Thursday night in Radford.

Robertson made 5-of-10 from behind the arc and Robbie McGuire was 3-of-3 en route to nine points. The Bobcats (12-8, 4-3) also got 15 points from Larnell Lewis.

Mark Akers led Shawsville with 14 points.

William Byrd 82, Rockbridge County 71: Chris Childress scored 25 of his 32 points in the first half and Kevin Stump picked up the slack in the second half with all of his 15 points as the Terriers defeated the Wildcats in a Blue Ridge District game in Lexington.

Byrd took control by outscoring Rockbridge County 30-17 in the second period. The Terriers outrebounded the hosts 35-19 overall and 19-6 on the offensive glass.

Mayo Wilson added 16 points for Byrd. Ricky Wright and Jaymie Terrell scored 21 points each for the Wildcats.

Carlisle 75, Roanoke Catholic 67: Bryant Redd and Joseph McClinton combined to scored 17 of Carlisle's 19 fourth-quarter points as the Chiefs held off Roanoke Catholic in a Virginia Independent Conference game in Martinsville.

Redd scored nine of his game-high 23 points in the final period and McClinton added eight of his 18 as Carlisle (16-1, 13-0) watched the Celtics cut a 15-point lead to six with 2:30 left before going on a 6-0 run to put the game away.

Terron Reed led the Celtics with 18 points and Chris Lothes added 15.

Highland 80, Craig County 59: Bryan Werner scored a career-high 27 points, including 13 in a big Highland second quarter, as the Rams cranked Craig County in a Pioneer District game in Monterey.

Highland (10-14, 4-6), which trailed by six early, outscored the Rockets 23-9 in the second quarter. Jacob Hull, Casey Thaler, and Timmy Harold each had 11 for the Rams.

Craig County was led by Jamie Fisher, who scored 19 points, including four 3-pointers. Dewayne Crawford added 16 and Casey Oiler had 14 for the Rockets.

Bath County 70, Covington 54: Jon Rodgers and Adam Grist each scored 15 points as Bath County never trailed in beating Covington 70-54 in a Pioneer District game in Hot Springs.

Covington's loss gives Glenvar the Pioneer District regular-season title and an automatic berth in the Region C tournament.

Rodgers scored eight points in the fourth quarter as Bath County made 14 of 22 free throws in the final period to pull away.

Grist and Rodgers each hit three of the Chargers' eight 3-pointers. Stewart Alexander added 14.

Covington (12-7, 9-2) was led by Brian Holloway, who scored a game-high 20.

AmherstCounty 75, Staunton River 63: The Lancers made 10 of 12 free throws during the fourth quarter to quell a Golden Eagles' rally and win the Seminole District game in Amherst.

Joe McDowell led five Amherst County players in double figures with 20 points. DeMarco Taylor added 15 points, Cam Jackson and Chad Bryan had 11 apiece and Cheeno Ware added 10 for the Lancers (9-10).

Jackson and Taylor had five points apiece in the fourth quarter, when the Lancers outscored the Golden Eagles 23-18.

Hunter Hoggatt paced Staunton River (8-11, 8-11) with 22 points, but was scoreless in the first quarter. Kevin Martin added 13 points and Lance Price scored 11.
