Recent Farm Service Agency Elections resulted in four Farm Service Agency committees. The Montgomery County FSA committee is Allen Sisson, Randolph Altizer, and Woodie Mitchell. The Alleghany Community FSA committee is Jim Arrington, Joan Wolf, and Tom Lavery. The Auburn Community FSA committee is Bernard Cox, Kyle Bishop, and Rose Mary Phillips. The Blacksburg Community County FSA committee is Chuck Shorter, Rick Wall, and Martha McDonald.
Betty Perry Letsinger, of Rich Creek, recently received the "Community Service Award for Excellence" from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Bob Abraham, of Christiansburg, recently won 1st prize in the standard lens category in the Underwater Photo Contest sponsored by Diving Enterprises in Roanoke.
Matthew Ogburn, of Blacksburg, recently received his Eagle Scout award at Blacksburg United Methodist Church. Ogburn, son of John and Amy Obgurn, is a member of Boy Scout Troop 152.
Michael Rorrer, of Christiansburg, was named a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Lions Club International Foundation in recognition of his commitment to serving the world community. Rorrer is a member of the Blacksburg Breakfast Lions Club, District 24 E. The Melvin Jones Fellow award is the foundation's highest honor.
Kendall Kessler, of Radford, was one of four artists selected by Agora gallery in New York City to be represented in "Panorama," a group show.
Joseph Sheffey, William Armentrout, Charlotte Shrewsbury, and Bob Whitmer of Radford, were recently appointed to Radford University's Athletic Association Advisory Council.
Edward Falco, of Blacksburg, was one of 19 Virginia writers to receive a fellowship from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Falco's award for $5000, the maximum amount, was based on quality of work.
Mary Branch Wyatt, formerly of Pulaski County, is the Virginia Presidential Award Winner for Excellence in the Teaching of Science and Mathematics by the National Science Foundation. Wyatt teaches second grade at Robert E. Lee Elementary in Spotsylvania. The award included a $7,500 grant to the school and an expense-paid trip to Washington. Wyatt is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jon T. Wyatt of Fairlawn.
