Victoria Scott, director of a program that helps find ways for retirees to volunteer in the community, was honored this week with Montgomery County's "Supervisors Award for Creativity and Excellence."
The county Board of Supervisors selected Scott, head of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, from among six finalists for the annual award at its Monday meeting.
Scott has run the program for four years and has "totally reinvented RSVP, attracted many new seniors, developed new work sites and elicited a broad range of community support from the private business sector," according to her citation. "She has unlimited creativity, energy and style dedicated to serving Montgomery County seniors." During her tenure, RSVP has grown to include 320 seniors.
The supervisors award, started by Supervisor Jim Moore several years ago, honors county employees "for their contributions in achieving substantial cost savings for county operations or for creating some new county service within budget."
The other finalists included:
Linda Crable, honored for developing computer software to keep county vehicle maintenance records current, for exceptional service during last month's heavy snow and for her work on the county's annual paint exchange and litter control programs.
Jackie Marrs and Stephanie Cruise, nominated for their work in the county finance department toward improving the annual budget process. Marrs is the chief accountant and Cruise is the data processing manager.
Tim Myers, recognized for major design work on the county's new recycling center before his transfer to the Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority when it took control of the Mid-County Landfill last summer.
Don Todora, honored for his hours of hard work to bring the new Christiansburg-to-Elliston public water line into service last year. Todora works for the county Public Service Authority.
