Two men looking for aluminum along the James River near Buchanan on Thursday night discovered the body of a 31-year-old Northeast Roanoke woman who was reported missing in December.
Botetourt County Sheriff Reed Kelly said Rebecca Jean Wright's body was found about 8 p.m. in brush about 12 feet from the riverbank a half-mile downstream from the Interstate 81 bridge.
An autopsy was performed Friday. The cause of death won't be known until toxicology tests are completed in a couple of weeks.
Roanoke Police Lt. Bill Beason said the woman's sister filed a missing-person report Dec. 10 after she hadn't seen Wright since Dec. 1. A subsequent investigation did not produce any leads.
