A Salem grand jury Friday indicted a Salem man who is accused of throwing his barefoot 10-year-old son out of the house on a rainy night.
The man became irate at his son for using profanity, Commonwealth's Attorney Fred King said.
"Allegedly, the father physically threw him out of the house," King said. Police said the weather at the time was cold and rainy, the wind was gusting, and the boy was barefoot and not adequately dressed.
The father, who is not being identified by the newspaper to protect the identity of his son, is charged with child neglect, a felony. The case will be tried in April, King said.
The grand jury also indicted a Salem man on a charge of raping his stepdaughter during a 20-month period.
The incident happened when the girl was between the ages of 13 and 15, King said. She is now 16.
The newspaper is not identifying the man to protect the identity of the stepdaughter.
The man, charged with statutory rape, is scheduled to have a bond hearing Feb. 26, King said.
