ECHL TEAM PAYS OFF FAN FOR INCIDENT

The Hampton Roads Admirals of the East Coast Hockey League have paid a fan an undisclosed amount of money after Admirals coach John Brophy allegedly threw a hacksaw or hacksaw blade at the fan.

``It has been resolved to everyone's satisfaction,'' Blake Cullen, the team's president, said Thursday.

Witnesses said Brophy threw something at the unidentified fan during Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Charlotte Checkers in Norfolk. The Admirals have lost 10 of their past 11 games.

According to witnesses, the fan yelled derogatory comments at the Admirals as they left the ice between the second and third periods. Brophy entered the dressing room with the team, then reappeared moments later. Witnesses said Brophy made a comment to the fan, then threw the hacksaw or hacksaw blade, hitting the fan in the hand.

Cullen would not say how much money was paid, or identify the fan.
