High school students loaded a truck with donated supplies bound for a West Virginia elementary school damaged by flood waters in January.
Marlinton Elementary School, which is near Bath County, Va., was severely damaged last month when the Greenbrier River overflowed its banks. The school reopened last week, but it is short of supplies such as desks and books, principal Wilma Dale said.
Teachers are copying whole chapters out of textbooks while new books are on order.
``The public library, which is located in one of our buildings, also lost all of its books,'' Dale said.
Sally Ribeiro, an assistant principal at Richmond's Adult Career Development Center, has a special attachment to the town of 2,000 people.
She grew up there, and her mother still lives in Marlinton.
When she learned the elementary school needed help, ``I kept saying to myself, there has to be something I can do,'' she said.
So she began making calls and "came up with an unbelievable stash of supplies. ... It was incredible.'' - Associated Press
