Southern Flavoring Co. Inc. of Bedford has bought the Preston-Hopkinson Company of Lynchburg. Both are direct mail companies that specialize in raising funds for organizations, primarily churches, according to John P. Messier, Southern Flavoring's vice president of marketing. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Southern Flavoring, established in Bedford in 1929, makes and markets Happy Home Flavorings and Seasonings. It also owns and operates Holiday Company Fund Raising.
Preston-Hopkinson is a manufacturer and marketer of commemorative plates, custom made for churches, schools and historical societies. It also sells custom products such as tote bags, T-shirts, sweat shirts, mugs and ceramic tile plaques.
Established in 1949, Preston-Hopkinson was purchased in 1985 by Robert K. Stovall and had operated as a division of Virginia Arts.
Preston-Hopkinson will stay at 215 Ninth St. in Lynchburg. Its three employees will be retained.
Southern Flavoring has 25 employes in Bedford.
