THE ROANOKE GM sells his interest in the ECHL expansion team.
Citing a potential conflict of interest and the concerns of his fellow Roanoke Express owners, Express general manager Pierre Paiement has pulled out of a deal to place an East Coast Hockey League franchise in Biloxi, Miss.
Paiement and John Gagnon, the Express' president and majority owner, were partners in the deal to put an expansion team in the Mississippi Coast Coliseum next season. Paiement sold his interest in the Biloxi team to Gagnon, who now is sole owner.
Paiement indicated some of the minority owners of the Express worried about the possibility of the Biloxi team detracting from his work with the Express.
``The potential conflict of interest that would occur in the future is the main reason for selling,'' Paiement said. ``I decided to sell my interest in Mississippi in fairness to my partners in the Roanoke Express organization and the Roanoke Express fans.
