off the road a mile south of Elliston and struck a utility pole. But

a clean-up crew was called in after firefighters contained what they

termed a "small spill" of the trailer's cargo; some of the 4,400

gallons of liquid bleach the trailer was hauling broke and began

leaking, said Chief M.L. Wells of the Elliston Volunteer Fire

Department.

One lane of Roanoke Road remained blocked as firefighters, then a

Roanoke contractor, worked on the spill and carted away the bleach.

Wells expected the road to be clear by 9 p.m. Monday. He said local

utility companies replaced the pole early Monday afternoon. color.
