Virginia Tech's 12th-ranked men's basketball team has lost the services of reserve forward David Jackson for the next two weeks.
Jackson, a 6-foot-5 junior from Janesville, Wis., underwent an emergency appendectomy Monday night at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
Hokies team physician Dr. Duane Lagan said Tuesday that Jackson was ``resting and doing fine.''
Lagan said Jackson ``should be strong enough to practice in a week or so and play in two weeks.''
If that timetable holds true, Jackson would miss Tech's final four regular-season games, but would return for the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament March 6-9 in Philadelphia.
Jackson, who played a key role as the sixth man for Tech's depth-shy National Invitation Tournament championship team last season, has seen his playing time diminish this season. Due to Tech's added depth, including the return of his twin brother, Jim, from back surgery, Jackson's average minutes have dwindled from 25 to nine per game. Jackson, who averaged 8.5 points per game last season, is averaging 3.3 this season.
Tech (19-3), coming off Saturday's 74-58 home loss to top-ranked Massachusetts, plays at La Salle (6-19) on Thursday.
