ARMED ROBBERS HIT 2 ROANOKE HOMES IN BOTH INCIDENTS, FRONT DOORS KICKED IN

Armed robbers wearing ski masks broke into two residences in Northwest Roanoke on Monday night, shooting one resident in the back and neck. Police are not linking the incidents at this point.

Officers responded to an apartment in the 5200 block of King Arthur Court at 9:50 p.m. for a 911 call. Police said that when they arrived, they found that the front door of the residence had been kicked open. The resident, Lorenda K. Lytle, 29, told police that two people wearing ski masks and dark clothing broke into her home. Each demanded money and held Lytle and her daughter at gunpoint.

Lytle gave them the money she had in her pocketbook, police said. The robbers fled on foot. No one was injured.

About 11:20 p.m., officers responded to a robbery call about 21/2 miles away at a home in the 1500 block of Lafayette Boulevard. Officers found Alvin Wilson, 48, who was suffering from two gunshot wounds.

Police said Wilson told them three men wearing ski masks and dark clothing had kicked in his front door. The men brandished guns and demanded money. When Wilson told the robbers he did not have money, one of the robbers shot him. The robbers fled on foot.

Wilson was treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and was discharged Tuesday, according to a nursing supervisor.
