An anonymous tip led to the discovery Thursday of the body of a 36-year-old Chatham man in Bedford County.
Bobby Anthony Eddie Carter had been pushed or rolled down a steep embankment off Virginia 608 five miles from the Bedford County-Pittsylvania County line, Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown said.
An autopsy will be performed, but Brown said the death is being investigated as a homicide.
Brown said police don't know if Carter was killed in Bedford County or if his body was dumped there later. There are no suspects and no motive, he said.
An officer with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries found the body about 10 a.m.
Investigators with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office told Bedford County authorities Wednesday that a tip indicated they might find a body somewhere near the county line, Brown said.
