Showtimers musical

Showtimers are presenting ``Jo,'' the musical version of ``Little Women,'' Thursday through March 10. The play is directed by Lee Cruise, assisted by choreographer Carter Cox and musical director Cecilia Everett.

Poet to visit Hollins

Lucinda Roy, award-winning poet and author, will speak Feb. 28 at 4:30 p.m. in the Green Drawing Room, Main Building, Hollins College. She will lecture on ``Seeing Things in Black and White: Higher Education and Women of Color.'' Roy is associate dean for curriculum, outreach and diversity at Virginia Tech. Thousand Man March

The Thousand Man March for black unity will be Saturday, beginning with a ceremony at 10 a.m. near the Washington Park swimming pool on Burrell Street, Roanoke. At 10:45 a.m., marchers will proceed to Addison Aerospace Magnet School at Fifth Street and Orange Avenue.

A program, for men and women, on black pioneers of the Roanoke Valley will take place at 11:30 a.m.

Zoo fund-raiser

``Hibernation Hiatus Vacation Auction,'' Mill Mountain Zoo's winter fund-raiser, will be held tonight at 6:30 at the Radisson Patrick Henry Hotel, Roanoke.The date for the event was incorrect in Friday's Tipoff.

The evening will begin with cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres and jazz by The Cool Daddy O's. A silent auction will continue until 8 p.m.

The highlight of the event will be the auction of donated vacation getaways. Auctioneer Jim Woltz also will take bids on such items as a New York trip with two tickets for David Letterman's show, a golf-beach-ski resort package and audio equipment.

At the end of the evening, a ticketholder will receive a surprise vacation.
