A Bedford County man who was shot in the abdomen two weeks ago at his ex-girlfriend's home has been charged with breaking and entering.
Fred W. Childress Jr., 42, of Huddleston also was charged with possession of marijuana, said Lt. John McCane of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.
McCane said Childress was shot once with a .38-caliber revolver fired by Claude Franklin Davis III of Rocky Mount. Davis was not charged.
The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Feb. 7, after dispatchers received a call from Jackie Basham, 33, of Huddleston, who said Childress was at the front door of her home and would not leave, McCane said.
A deputy was on the way to the residence, off Virginia 734, when Basham called again and said Davis had shot Childress after Childress forced his way in, McCane said.
