Salem's Amy Moore took the title of Virginia's Junior Miss on Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center.
Moore earned about $5,000 in scholarship money along with her title and will compete in Mobile, Ala., for the national title.
First alternate was Elizabeth Malay of Fredericksburg, and second alternate was Jessica Edgar of Lynchburg.
Judges rated contestants in five categories: judges' interview, creative and performing arts, scholastic achievement, fitness and presence, and composure.
Moore, daughter of Jim and Gaylyn Moore, sang and played guitar for the talent portion of the competition.
She plans to attend either the University of Virginia or Wake Forest and pursue a career in orthopedic surgery.
Moore also was declared winner of the Spirit of Junior Miss Award and was one of two winners of the interview competition.
Another Salem representative, Molly Holtman, was named one of two winners of the presence and composure portion of the competition.
