It's not the lottery or Publisher's Clearing House, but it does get you a $10 credit on your garbage bill.
The Blacksburg Recycling Office has started a program that recognizes a "recycler of the month" to show appreciation for residents who make a concerted effort to recycle. The Taylor family, who live on Briarwood Drive, are the first people to win the award - and the $10 credit, though they have donated that money back to the town's recycling program.
"We're big supporters of recycling and just thrilled the town is doing this," said Dave Taylor, who credits his wife, Jenny, for the award. "It's wonderful to see [recycling] be respectable."
The Cates family, of Hutcheson Drive, were chosen as the runners-up and will receive Blacksburg recycling mugs.
The town's recycling coordinators will monitor various areas of Blacksburg each month looking for people who make extra efforts to recycle. If you know someone who should be honored for recycling efforts, call 961-1851.
