Roanokers will have a chance to express their thoughts on the proposed $18.5 million redevelopment of Henry Street at a public hearing at 6:30 tonight at Addison Aerospace Magnet Middle School, Fifth Street and Orange Avenue Northwest.
The meeting has been postponed twice, first because of snow and then to avoid conflict with last weekend's Thousand Man March in Roanoke.
Land-use plans will be on display, and the board of commissioners of the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority will hear public comments. The housing agency owns most of Henry Street.
Consultants have suggested building restaurants, nightclubs, shops, a radio station, amphitheater and authority offices on what was once Roanoke's central black commercial street.
Residents also may see and provide written comments on the plans from Wednesday through March 8 at authority offices, 2624 Salem Turnpike N.W. Hours will be noon to 5 p.m. except March 5 and 7, when offices will stay open until 6.
