EXPRESS LEAVES TOWN WITHOUT 2 KEY PLAYERS

The Roanoke Express left Tuesday for a two-game trip to Richmond and South Carolina without injured forwards Jason Clarke and Craig Herr.

Clarke suffered a fractured shoulder blade during Saturday night's loss 7-2 at Johnstown when he collided with Chiefs defenseman Ted Russell and fell into the end boards. Herr broke two ribs during Sunday night's 3-2 shootout loss at Erie. Both men are out indefinitely.

The Express plays the Renegades at 7 p.m. today at the Richmond Coliseum, then travels to South Carolina for a game against the Stingrays on Friday.

Roanoke's next home game is March 5 against the Mobile Mysticks.

Florida's Dominick Millner, a sophomore long-jumper from Roanoke, took first place at the Southeastern Conference indoor track and field championships this past weekend in Lexington, Ky.

Millner, a William Fleming High School alumnus, leaped 25 feet, 91/2 inches to become the Gators' first indoor long-jump champion since 1976. He will compete March 8-9 at the NCAA championships in Indianapolis.

Radford University placed 18th in a 19-team field at the Charleston Southern Spring Kick-off Invitational golf tournament in North Charleston, S.C.

Georgia Southern led the way with a 577 total at Coosaw Creek Country Club. Radford finished at 667. Brian Hill was the Highlanders' top player, tying for 38th, 16 strokes behind medalist Adam Thomas of Georgia Southern.

William Byrd defeated Gate City 15-6, 13-15, 15-6 in a Group AA volleyball tournament quarterfinal at Gate City and Jefferson Forest beat Carroll County 15-2, 15-4 at Forest. Both teams will play in the semifinals on Friday at Jefferson Forest.
